Pakistan has conducted a successful flight test of Shaheen-1A surface-to-surface ballistic missile, aimed at re-validating certain design and technical parameters of the weapon system, the military said.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday, the flight test was witnessed by Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General Nadeem Zaki Manj, NESCOM Chairman Dr Raza Samar, Commander Army Strategic Forces Command Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali and the scientists and engineers of strategic organisations.

The statement said that the Director-General Strategic Plans Division congratulated scientists and engineers on the successful conduct of the flight test. He appreciated the technical prowess, dedication and commitment of scientists and engineers for their excellent contribution.

According to the ISPR, President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Nadeem Raza and Services Chiefs congratulated the scientists and engineers on this achievement.

In March, the armed forces had conducted a successful test launch of the Shaheen 1-A medium-range ballistic missile.

"The missile spanned a range of 900 kilometres and the test flight was aimed at the re-validating of various design and technical parameters of the weapon system including an advanced navigation system", said the military's media wing.

Earlier, Pakistan conducted a successful training launch of the Babur IA cruise missile.

The cruise missile has a range of 450 kilometres and can be launched from either a submarine or a land-based quad-launcher.

In 2018, the military conducted the first successful submarine launch of the Babur cruise missile, giving Islamabad a credible second-strike capability and augmenting the existing deterrence regime.

My understanding: Improved Range, CEP and MIRV were tested.

Ma Sha Allah, another good news after the news of new F-16 block 70 counts reach 20 and 6 EDA block 72.
Sir as you said improved range and MIRV capability. Then its huge success for Shaheen 1A missile. Because Shaheen missile already have a good speed ( if i remember Mach 7 ). So MIRV will made it more deadly for india.

Terminal phase speed is Mach 20 + Actual speed is classified.

Interesting thing, this test tells us is that Shaheen 1A is no longer SRBM, but MRBM.

I would imagine that the tests also include the use of military version of Chinese Beidou for guidance/positioning..
...considering that it was announced to be fully operational in 2020...it only seems logical that during tests...use of Beidou(military version) will also be tested. It should definitely improve CEP since Pak did not have access to military version of GPS.

Ma Sha Allah, Sir @Khafee i have question in my mind. Shaheen 2's range is 2250 kms. And Shaheen 3 only adds 500kms and its range 2750 kms. It should be more than 3500 kms. So i doubt the actual range must be more than 3500 instead of 2750kms.
Other view is that, Pakistan high command don't wanna alert Tel-Aviv on actual range of Shaheen missile.
Is this the matter??Thanks Sir.

What the enemy knows, and what is openly admitted, are two different things. As mentioned by you, not only Israel, but other enemies would also exploit this, to suit their narrative, so best to keep them guessing.

Perhaps some subsystems of the previously announced(but yet untested) P282 missile being tested onboard the Shaheen 1A?
Maybe a more manueverable warhead to be able to hit relatively slow moving targets at sea?
I like the way you think §§•

Would you like to add something to this test in a naval context ‘∞‘
Sir, as earlier you said in a post, that might be test for MIRV. Its small size missile, not a lengthy one. So is there any possibility to fit these missile (after some changes) into upcoming new Qing class submarines from china. Because Qing class can host ballistic missile as well as cruise missile. So in cruise missile category we already have Babur submarine launch missile. And if Shaheen 1A could be fitted into it after some necessary changes for submarine launch through VLS. Then it would be truly nuclear second strike option from Subs. And our Triad would be completed. Thanks

As per some sources the P282 might be the Chinese CM401
Pakistan receives new Chinese-made frigate. How will it fare against India’s Navy?

If it is true...we could see Pak/China going the route of Indian/Russia in case of their Brahmos. As in they "jointly develop" something that already exists(an MTCR compliant version)...so that it can be indigenized. Then Pak can churn out longer range variants. Here below is a cursory look at some details/capabilities of CM401
