Paris and Berlin have reached agreement on the engines of the future European combat aircraft

France and Germany have reached an agreement on the industrial organization of engines. At first, Safran will be the main contractor and MTU subcontractor. Subsequently, the industrialists will create a joint venture at parity to carry the contracts and the certification of the engine.
Met last week at the Dubai Air Show, Airbus Defense & Space boss Dirk Hoke assured La Tribune that the challenges of the Future Air Combat System (SCAF) would be overcome, including on the difficult shutter. concerning engine manufacturers (Safran, MTU). And to specify that Germany and France were going to " find a solution" on the industrial organization of the engines of the future European combat aircraft, the NGF program (Next Generation Fighter). It is now done, according to several concordant sources.
SCAF is finally on the runway. If there is no risk to disrupt the "rolling phase", the European program (Germany, France and Spain) should take off at the end of January with the notification of the Research and Technology (R & T) contracts on the five pillars of the project, including the famous technological demonstrator under the prime contractor of Dassault Aviation which is highly anticipated. But time is running out. And every minute counts, including those of weekends, to be at the time of the political calendar, to understand, that of Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel.
An industrial organization finally frozen
Paris and Berlin have reached an oral agreement, which must now be declined in writing. In phase 1A (Research and Technology), France has obtained that Safran is clearly the prime contractor while MTU is confined to a role of main subcontractor ( main partner ). This organization was so far disputed by MTU, itself supported by the German parliament. But France has not yielded. It was also a strong desire of France to balance the relationship between French and German manufacturers on the SCAF (Airbus Germany is prime contractor for three pillars while Dassault Aviation and Safran are for a pillar each). "This scheme ended up being approved," says one La Tribune.

The Directorate General of Armament (DGA) wanted "the responsibilities are clearly displayed, contrary to what had been done for the engine of the Airbus A400M," confirmed in early October the General Delegate for Armament, Joel Barre , in the Senate. "We therefore want to have a manager by post and we are in discussion with Safran and MTU so that Safran plays this role in terms of engine, for reasons of balance of industrial sharing between stations," he said. precise. This caused a halt to the SCAF program because of the hostility of MTU, supported by the German parliament.

A joint venture created between Safran and MTU

After the R & T phase, Safran and MTU are committed to creating a 50/50 joint venture, whose creation date and contours are still to be negotiated. This company will carry the contracts and will rely on the skills of the two parent companies. But the division of tasks between the two manufacturers will have to be consistent according to their competence (integration for Safran, services for MTU). Ultimately , this company will carry the certification of the engine of the future European fighter. All actors involved in this dossier are "aligned"on this industrial scheme, one assures La Tribune. The DGA no longer waits on its desk that the technical and financial proposals of manufacturers, which should arrive imminently. Deadline, December 6th.
In addition, the place of Indra, the Spanish group that Madrid has designated to be its champion in the SCAF to the chagrin of Airbus, has also been settled. The Spanish group, which will be a major subcontractor of Dassault Aviation, will not only be in the photo, it will be well in the program and will get R & T contracts, says one in the gallery. Subsequently, Indra will have a defined share according to the amount of the investment, which Madrid will consent in the SCAF program.

Intellectual Property Treaty

In Dubai, the boss of the Airbus defense business had also been resolutely optimistic to find a solution to resolve the sensitive issue of intellectual property. Especially as Germany has surprised by demonstrating its know-how in the field of systems systems through a hitherto secret program. Indeed, Airbus Germany recently unveiled the existence of a stealth combat drone demonstrator, dubbed LOW (Low Observable UAV Testbed).
Here again, France and Germany have found a framework agreement where each manufacturer can protect the intellectual property of his skills. This means that Safran, for example, does not have to transfer its skills on the hot parts of the engine to MTU. On the other hand, all the competences necessary for the establishment of the studies in common are shared within a frame of right of use. Clearly, all that is created by industry in the context of cooperation (Airbus / Dassault Aviation or Safran and MTU for example), jointly owned by companies. In addition, states can use it for their defense needs. On the other hand, no question for the industrialists to transfer to the civil know-how if they do not have the intellectual property.

They better focus on the Eurofighter and fix what needed to be fixed before jumping to another project.

I think Euro-fighter is now an abandoned project.
They made all the required experience and money.

these planes go astray like crows.
and you have already spent billions of dollars.
:p

Do you call F-35 and F22 lame ducks? Not sure if you are just joking around spamming the forum. Please do a real comparison and then come back again to me.
