PM Modi says India can now defeat Pakistan 'in 10 days'

Modi is under pressure after weeks of ongoing protests against a new citizenship law

NEW DELHI: India is now capable of making Pakistan "bite the dust" in less than 10 days in any new war with its arch-rival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

The nuclear-armed neighbours have fought three wars and last February came close to a fourth with tit-for-tat airstrikes sparked by an attack on Indian troops in Kashmir.
Modi is under pressure after weeks of ongoing protests against a new citizenship law, a slowing economy and the prospect of losing the latest in a string of state elections in New Delhi next month.

"Pakistan has already lost three wars. Our armed forces will not take more than 7-10 days to make Pakistan bite the dust," Modi said in a speech to military personnel on Tuesday.

His comments follow last year's incident when an Indian fighter jet was shot down - and the pilot captured - by Islamabad after a rare aerial engagement.
Wearing a maroon National Cadet Corps baseball cap at the event in the capital, Modi said India's new prowess was thanks to what he called "youthful thinking".
He said that Indian strikes against what New Delhi said were militants in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and inside Pakistan proper in 2016 and last year were evidence of this.
"This is 'youthful thinking'. We carry out surgical strikes and take on terrorists in their homes," Modi said.
India and Pakistan have fought three wars: in 1947, 1965 and 1971, as well as in 1999 during the so-called Kargil Conflict.

Modi said that Pakistan continues to wage a "proxy war" against India by backing militants in Indian-administered Kashmir where tens of thousands of people have died in recent decades.
Kashmir has been divided between India and Pakistan since Independence from Britain in 1947. In August Modi's government stripped Indian Kashmir of its partial autonomy.

That's rhetoric meant to appeal to the extremist Hindu segment of his support base. This seems to be a pattern in which populists around the world are instigating hate and exploiting peoples anger to get into power. They don't have a long term vision and their political agenda will crumble when people no longer see a use for it. In the process though they will cause irreversible damage to their countries.

what's hilarious is that India, only has enough ammo for 10 days of a confrontation, and now they are working for enough ammo for 30 days. and this is just a diversion to take the attention of their internal problems.

I thought Feb conflict would have opened the eyes of Indian Military Establishment but no, they learn nothing ..
India does have Qualitative edge over Pakistan but because of parity between two Countries , specially in Militaristic terms Pakistan can and will be able to hold Indian Attacks for long time, we saw that in 1965 war and back than the technology and firepower was weak on Pakistani side. The Geographic will be disadvantageous for the Aggressor because of Mountains , Valley's , Lakes , landslides , rain fall etc moving large formations would be hard and tanks in Kashmir region will find harder to move freely and they become easy targets for TOW's and Anti guided Anti Tank Missiles , Same goes for low Flying Attack fighters they can be targeted using MANPA'D and hide in the thick forest of Kashmir region which will be hard to detect , so I think Modi is just giving these Statements to his deluded Public for local media and Political consumption nothing else .

if you look into every time India has a major internal problem, such as the recent Gujarat wall, CAA Riots and other internal issues they tend to point fingers towards Pakistan or others and their issues, so Modi can claim is "peaceful" when in reality it isn't.
in fact, many tend to believe Modi wants an open war to gain more public votes/supporters so he can win their upcoming elections.

is a rhetoric statement so he can get more sympathy and support from his rather radical Hindu supporters. if you look at India every time they have some major internal unrest, all of a sudden Pakistan becomes a problem and automatically they need war?
it's cause Modi doesn't have a true plan to resolve the issues regarding the economy, CAA Riots, Gujarat problem and much more.

HE TOPLINE: President Trump on Monday was offered a warm welcomeduring his first trip to India and announced that the U.S. and India would sign a defense deal for New Delhi to purchase more than $3 billion in American helicopters and other military equipment.

Addressing a large crowd at a cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, Trump called Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "true friend," touted the bond between the United States and India and expressed a desire to strengthen that bond further.
"Namaste, and hello to India. This is such a great honor," Trump said at the outset of his remarks. "The first lady and I have just traveled 8,000 miles around the world to deliver a message to every citizen across this nation: America loves India, America respects India, and America will always be faithful and loyal friends to the Indian people."
Trump's appearance at the Sardar Patel Stadium -- the largest cricket stadium in the world with a seating capacity of more than 100,000 -- kicked off his two-day stay in India, his first visit to the South Asian country as president.
Touting the deal: Last week, India's cabinet cleared the purchase of 24 MH-60R Seahawk maritime helicopters.
Separately, earlier in February, the State Department cleared a $1.8 billion sale of air defense missiles and radars, rifles and related equipment.
"The United States looks forward to providing India with the best and most feared military equipment on the planet. We make the greatest weapons ever made -- airplanes, missiles, rockets, ships. We make the best, and we are dealing now with India," Trump said.
"I am pleased to announce that tomorrow our representatives will sign deals to sell over $3 billion in the absolute finest, state-of-the-art military helicopters and other equipment to the Indian armed forces," the president said.
