US commercial and military aircraft propulsion manufacturer Pratt & Whitney plans to open a new research and development facility dedicated to the design, development and production of ceramic matrix composites for aerospace applications, the company announced on 20 Novermer. It aims to develop composie materials with higher thermal tolerances and lower weight for use in its next generation of military and commercial engines.
