The prime minister of Bangladesh has said that the people of the country need to punish those who still love Pakistan despite living in an independent nation, BD News 24 reports.

“The people of Bangladesh must respond to those who have been lost in their love for Pakistan. They must be punished. We must make them forget their love for Pakistan,” Sheikh Hasinas told an event on Sunday.

“If we cannot do it, we will cease to exist,” she was reported as saying at the gathering, which was organised by the ruling Awami League at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.

The president of the ruling party in Bangladesh was of the opinion that the assassination of founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1975 had affected the people in the country greatly.

Hasina termed rival Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) founder Ziaur Rehman and wife Khaleda Zia ‘lovers of Pakistan’, saying the duo had grabbed power in the country after the killing of Sheikh Mujeeb.

Hasina scoffed at Zia, noting that the entire history of the country changed after 1975 as BNP made an effort to make people forget the events of 1971, which was evidence of their love for Pakistan.

Hasina stated that party which came into power after the assassination of Mujeeb did not work for the people.

“They did not want the country to progress. They were implementing the agenda of the Pakistani forces,” she alleged.

“Pakistan would be happy if Bangladesh became a failed state and they (Bangladeshi rulers after 1975) wanted to make Pakistan happy,” she added.

Hasina also mentioned HM Ershad, who came to power after Ziaur Rahman, in her speech. Ershad, the chief of a key ally of the Awami League, now serves as a special envoy of the prime minister.

She is simply deflecting from her govt failures as usual. Pakistan is easiest scapegoat.
But this is really dangerous for BD's younger generation i mean look at the wording "BD will cease to exist" as if their economy is fueled by their hatred of Pakistan just because of petty politics she's playing such a dangerous game polluting young minds with so much hatred and poison.

I believe given that she has no credible opposition it is difficult to challenge her

Yes she has played the Machiavelli playbook about as well as it can be in BD environment. Some 3 decades of experimenting in it though.

Basically a revolution or bust situation is now there....and BD people simply do not feel thats worth doing at the current status quo it seems.

It has been toxic for quite some time now. Traditionally they used to hate just Pakistan (and that got passed on to that younger generation back then who are now the elder generation), then Myanmar over time...now they increasingly hating on India (before it was mostly envious suspicion etc)....and now they are starting an anti-china (and by proxy Russia) feel because of their support to MM. They honestly if you talk to them in certain other forums, feel becoming complete lackey of the Western powers is now their best chance....but are angry that no one there really takes them seriously either and the impression is always from the start BD is some basket case, smaller derpy version of India (as true or untrue that may be on ground).

So maybe silver lining for Pakistan specifically is that you are no longer the "only" thing they are hating on as a larger people (though Haseena wants it to look like that).

Of course they will have certain things they support from all of them, be it Pakistan cricket team, Indian movies/culture, Chinese/Russian weapon sales etc.....but they are not enough to keep them grounded as people I fear.

So in this increasingly competitive atmosphere of things to hate, Haseena has to re-invigorate about the particular kind she represents to make it the USP for her base in the upcoming elections etc.

They seem to have a real frustration that they can Machiavelli inside their country but have zero capability to do these shenanigans outside. They do not have nuance, ability to negotiate and compromise etc... in a world that is nowhere near as polarised as their own country, that is a terrible situation to have for them. World doesn't really care that much.
