No one should have the illusion that they can gain military superiority over Russia.

Vladimir Putin says Russia's army can't be stopped

RUSSIA’S PRESIDENT VLADIMIR Putin has said that his country’s military is unstoppable.

Interfax quotes Putin as making the remark in the buildup to next week’s Defenders of the Fatherland Day.

“No one should have the illusion that they can gain military superiority over Russia, put any kind of pressure on it.

“We will always have an adequate answer for any such adventures.”

He said that the country’s soldiers had proven themselves.

Russia currently has 835,000 active personnel and 2 million reservists.

Our soldiers and officers have proven that they are ready to act decisively smoothly, professionally and courageously, to perform the most difficult non-standard tasks, as befits a modern hardened combat-ready army that protects their traditions and military duty.

The comments come as the fragile ceasefire in Ukraine looks to be crumbling.

“The ceasefire has been violated several times,” French President Francois Hollande said in a joint Paris media conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The EU, US and Ukraine accuse Russia of being behind the hostilities. Moscow denies directly supporting the rebels.

While Merkel and Hollande met, pro-Russian rebels were taking victorious photos of each other in the east Ukrainian town of Debaltseve, a strategic transport hub they overran this week despite the ceasefire coming into force last Sunday.

The town was a graveyard of burnt-out Ukrainian army vehicles, craters and shattered buildings, AFP reports.

The battle for the town had involved non-stop shelling before the rebels stormed it for street-to-street fighting.

Of course they can be stopped. It is just words from Putin. But I must agree that Russia's military might is also formindable.

No one's arguing about Russia's military might. Putin made sure everyone sees how powerful Russia's armed forces is. He can go on thinking that way, but for how long though? Military might doesn't grow on trees. You need money to sustain it. With an economy on the verge of ruin, Putin won't be able to hold on to this illusion of power for long.

Russia is very much capable of having such a scary army. Although I would agree that Putin is the opposite of his army. :/

Putin is saying that, but is the equipment up to the battle status? Remember when Russia crumbled, a lot of their equipment was ruined and just rusted away to nothing. However, it would be fitting for Russia to take advantage of what is seen as a major global instability and with so many forces disarming, they could easily strike at countries in Eastern Europe and potentially reach Germany and possibly France before a lot of the NATO countries could react. Kind of like what Hitler did when he struck Poland and then France. Except the Russians would not have to be concerned about a two front war, unless America would hit from the East and try to come in through Siberia or China from the South.

Well Putin should try and spend some more time on fixing his country's economy than talking about his military superiority. Russia cannot and will never defeat America in a military confrontation. Further more any military confrontation involving Russia will more than likely involve the NATO forces as well and so Russia will be defeated in such an event.

It's because Putin is unstoppable. If we can stop the head, then we can step the rest. So I think for a bloodless kind of war and a peaceful ending, Putin has to be tamed. It's all about Putin. He keeps on wobbling the world. And I think it's all that it got. They have more freedom to do whatever they like, but their technologies are not as high end as that of the US, who on the other hand, got so much means but only has limited capabilities to use and exercise them because of their laws.
