In annual presidential address to the Federal Assembly in Moscow Russian President Vladimir Putin officially unveiled a new hypersonic nuclear-capable ICBM called the RS-28 Sarmat and said it would be able to strike anywhere in the U.S . He also added that testing of weapon is now complete. NATO calls the nuke “Satan 2”.
There have been media reports about the RS-28’s development since 2014. But Putin’s speech claims testing of the weapon is finished—and he said it is already deployed in the south of Russia, Sputnik reported.
Russia and the U.S. are the two most heavily armed nuclear powers in the world. The U.S. State Department said America has 652 deployed ICBMs, submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs) and heavy bombers, while Russia has 527. It said the U.S. possesses 1,350 nuclear warheads on deployed ICBMs, SLBMs and heavy bombers, while Russia has 1,444.
And the U.S. claims 800 deployed and nondeployed nuclear launchers, while Russia is estimated to have 779. Both powers are obliged by nonproliferation treaties to reduce their nuclear stockpiles.
RS-28 Sarmat (Satan 2)
The RS-28 Sarmat is a Russian liquid-fueled, MIRV(Multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle)-equipped, super-heavy thermonuclear armed intercontinental ballistic missile .The operational range of RS-28 Sarmat is 10,000 kilometres and its speed is over 20.7 Mach (4.3 miles per second, 15,480 miles per hour (24,910 km/h) .
The Weight of warhead is over 100 ton and it can carry a payload of 10 ton which will allow RS-28 to carry
1) 10 heavy warheads
2) 15 lighter ones warheads
3) 24 hypersonic glide vehicles
The missile could deliver a 50 Mt charge .The maximum theoretical yield-to-weight ratio is about 6 megatons of TNT per metric ton, and the maximum achieved ratio was apparently 5.2 megatons of TNT per metric ton in B/Mk-41). “RS-28 Sarmat can wipe out an area ‘the size of Texas or France” .

Its propulsion system is so advanced that it can defy existing missile defense systems.
