During the Obama's recent trip to Saudi Arabia (for the formal meeting between Obama and the new king of Saudi Arabia), Michelle Obama came under criticism for her decision (conscious? due to the impromptu nature of the trip?) not to wear a headscarf to cover her hair. Previously, when going to Indonesia, she had worn one. To what extent do you think visiting dignitaries and officials should adhere to the prevailing customs of the region in which they are traveling? More specifically, do you think Michelle Obama's actions may have affected ties between the United States and Saudi Arabia, if only from a public opinion front?
