Brother I know you mean well, but can you remove the pics (esp of him in the car). We need to be more respectful.

How really thought provoking, A “Rtd Lt Gen/Deputy COAS/Commander V Corps” in a 30 year old Mazda.

He fought hard, stood tall, and didn't compromise. Salute to the brave one, May Allah give him the highest place in Jannah.

Only met him once, for 10~15mins, but a very straight forward, polite, humble, gem of a person. Feel like I lost one of my own.

ISLAMABAD, 2 May — In a major move, the military government yesterday appointed Lt. Gen. Muzaffar Hussain Usmani, commander 5th Corps, as the deputy chief of army staff. He will assume charge on May 17. Senior officials say Lt. Gen. Usmani will remain a three-star general and he would be the second most important officer in the army once he assumes the new office.

His appointment as the deputy chief of army staff (DCOAS) is seen as a major move by Chief Executive Gen. Pervez Musharraf to pave way for his own appointment as the president of the country.

Former Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen (retd) Muzaffar Hussain Usmani passes away

Thursday Oct 01 2020

Two former corps commander Karachi — former Deputy Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen (retd) Muzaffar Hussain Usmani and Lt Gen (retd) Naseer Akhtar — passed away on Thursday.

Lt Gen (retd) Usmani breathed his last in Karachi while Lt Gen (retd) Akhtar passed away in Lahore.

According to the Superintendent of Police Clifton Imran Mirza, police had received information of a body lying inside a car near Khayaban-e-Shajar Park.

On arrival, the police saw that the car's engine and headlights were switched on and found Lt Gen (retd) Usmani dead inside the vehicle.

According to SP Mirza, the former general — a resident of Karachi's Gizri area — had died of cardiac arrest.

According to media reports, Lt Gen (retd) Usmani was appointed as the corps commander of Karachi during the martial law imposed in Pakistan in 1999. He retired in 2001.

Meanwhile, Lt Gen (retd) Akhtar's family said the former military officer had passed away at a local hospital in Lahore where he was admitted for a couple of days.

The family said that the former corps commander was suffering from a medical condition that caused tremors in his body.

Akhtar's funeral prayers will be offered at Lahore Cantt after Zuhr prayer.

Lt Gen (retd) Akhtar was served as corps commander Karachi from 1992 to 1994.

Former Karachi corps commander’s body found in city’s DHA area

Lieutenant General (retd) Muzaffar Ali Usmani was 80-years-old

Our Correspondent October 01, 2020

KARACHI:
The body of former Karachi corps commander, Lieutenant General (retd) Muzaffar Ali Usmani, was found in a vehicle in the port city's Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area, said police.

Usmani's body was found in a vehicle parked on DHA's Kheyaban-e-Sehr. He was 80.

Officials transferred the body to PNS Shifa, where it was identified. According to preliminary medical reports, the former corps commander suffered a heart attack while driving.

The late general was born in the Muradabad area of India in 1944. His family migrated to Pakistan in 1947.

He was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in 1966. During his service, he held various command and staff appointments and also commanded a corps-sized formation in Bahawalpur.

He was instrumental in overthrowing Nawaz Sharif's government on October 12, 1999, when the then-army chief General Pervez Musharraf's aircraft was not allowed to land in Karachi and was ordered to land in Nawabshah.

Lt-Gen(r) Usmani took control of Karachi Airport and allowed the former army chief's aircraft to land.

In 2001, Usmani was appointed as deputy chief of the army staff by Musharraf, however, due to growing differences between the two, Musharraf removed him from the position.

Lt-Gen(r) Usmani retired from Pakistan Army in 2002.
