Russia has begun air-strikes in Syria targeting Assads enemies.

Syria crisis: Russian air strikes against Assad enemies - BBC News

Although in the long term its unlikely to help Assad stay in power, Russias actions seem more about sabre-rattling and making their presense felt rather than any real military objective. Just more game-playing from Putin as he tries to engineer the conflict to suit his own ends.

According to your post - it's unlikely to help Assad stay in power - that is the Russian's strike against Assad's enemies. And in another thread, Saudi Arabia is meddling in Syria's politics since they want to kick out Assad from his seat of power. How about the US, do they condone Assad or are they in the same boat with Russia and Saudi? If that is the case then what are they waiting for? Why not mount a concerted attack against ISIS and Assad?

This does seem a little bit of a ploy to show how his military is still world class, but at the same time it's kinda good that they have come onto the attack against ISIS as it shows that yet another country is not happy with the stuff they are pulling.

Although I might be looking at it through rose-tinted specs, both the US and Russian airforces operating in the region might give way to some joint co-ordination and some joint operations which might in the long term re-build bridges with Russia.

From what I've read, it seems that the U.S. and Russia's operations in Syria are incompatible, and their arrival on the scene will only complicate the situation. Here's an excerpt from the article I'm linking:
"White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Russia's airstrikes in Syria were 'indiscriminate' and risked prolonging the conflict 'indefinitely'." Vladimir Putin signs decree drafting 150,000 conscripts into the Russian military | Daily Mail Online

He claimed Russia's 'random' strikes on Syria's enemies would draw the country deeper into the conflict.
