Russian president Vladimir Putin says that Russian weapons have turned the tide of the war in Syria. Russian warplanes have flown 10,000 missions since Sept. 30 hitting 200 oil facilities allowing the Syrian military to drive militants from 500 towns and villages. For the first time, Russia tested its new air and sea launched cruise missiles to hit targets in Syria unleashing 115 strikes. Putin went on to say that dialogue between Russia and the US will create positive results and create conditions for political settlement.

If wasn't for outside intervention in the first place, no "rebel" can defeat a regime without some kind of "coup" from the top. The mess in Syria wasn't started by Syrian civilians. Assad was fighting against various foreign sponsored groups from the very beginning.

Of course Russia's involvement could turn the tide of the war. Any major power can achieve it. However, just to turn the tide is far from enough to secure the power for Assad. Without completely wipe out all organized large militia groups, the war has no end in Syria.

The effort put in by the Russian Air Force for sure turned the tide of power for Assad. He was losing in multiple fronts until the Russians stepped in with their relentless blitz of airstrikes and pushed back the rebels/ISIS on multiple theaters and made it possible for Syrian forces to retake many towns. Without the Russian Air Force the Syrian Army would definitely have been knocked by massively by now. They also seemed to do much more damage to ISIS in the 6 months the Russian Air Force was striking than the US did in the nearly 2 years they have been there for.
