Saudi Arabia: new regional leader?

Saudi Arabia has been taking actions towards Iran, withing the Arab world to create alliances that make the country look the leader of the region. Is that a fact? Has the US association to the country something to do with it?

On face value it might that Saudi Arabia is the regional leader but then Iran's influence has also been growing. They're working more closely with the Iraqis, fighting alongside Assad and Lebanon is in their hands too. But they are not content with that. They're fomenting trouble elsewhere because they want to be the regional leaders. IMHO, the outcome of the Yemen conflict will determine who gets to be the regional leader in the Middle East.
