Saudi Arabia, Turkey to set up "strategic cooperation council:" Saudi FM

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia and Turkey agreed on the need to set up a "strategic cooperation council" to stengthen military, economic and investment cooperation between the two countries, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said Tuesday.

"The meeting produced a desire to set up a high-level strategic cooperation council between the two countries," Jubeir told a joint news conference with his Turkish counterpart after talks in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, between Saudi King Abdullah and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.

He said the council will deal with security, military, economic, trade, energy and investment between the two countries.

Saudi King Salman meets Turkey’s Erdogan

Saudi King Salman on Monday met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who arrived with his accompanying delegation to the capital Riyadh on the same day.

The state-run Saudi Press Agency said that King Salman held official talks session at the al-Yamamah Palace with Erdogan.

The talks addressed bilateral relations, means of enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields, and the developments on regional and international arenas, SPA reported.

The agency added Erdogan’s talks with Salman were attended by other senior Saudi royals and officials, including the kingdom’s crown prince, the deputy crown prince, and the ministers of finance, foreign affairs and information. Erdogan’s delegation to Saudi Arabia includes the country’s ministers of economy, energy and foreign affairs.

Erdogan said his government and Saudi Arabia are working “in solidarity and consultation” to find a political solution for Syria, as both countries push for an agreement that would remove Assad from power.

I don't believe all leaders in the ME including Erdogan share any ambitions that the people of the region have. They do decent job for their nations but that is all. Standard of leadership declined, in ancient world humans had better leaders. This is because they needed support of whole Empire and couldn't risk alienating the peoples. Muslims used to have magnificent leaders who would spend the day trying to lend a hand to any of the poor. And allowed their residents to openly practice Islam and didn't promote anything else. The leadership today is terrible. Non-state groups have better leaders but most of them lack familiarity with running a government/getting an economy going.
