Singapore unveils its latest AFV -WDF exclusive

The Singapore Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) with ST Engineering and the Singaporean Army, has launched a new AFV i.e. Armoured Fighting Vehicle, called "Hunter".

This new Hunter AFV will boasts greater firepower, survivability and mobility. It will gradually replace the Singaporean Army's fleet of Ultra M113 AFV's, which have been in service since the 1970's.

The new Hunter AFV was commissioned yesterday, at the Singapore Army's Armour formation's 50th anniversary parade.

Operated by a crew of 3, driver, gunner and commander, It has a 30mm cannon capable of firing Armour piercing and high explosive ammunition, plus an additional 7.62mm Coaxial machine gun. To top it up, a 76mm smoke grenade launcher, and the ability to fire anti-tank guided missiles exists.

Being 3.4m wide, 6.9m long and 3.4m tall, it is ideally suited for Singapore tropical terrain, weighing in at 29.5t it can travel 500kms on a full tank.

It has the latest military specification touchscreen control panels, and an automatic target detection and tracking system. An upgraded command & control system called "Artemis" allows mission planning to be done from the platoon to the battalion level.

It also has eight cameras to provide 360 degree views, as well as a laser warning system, to provide early warning, when targeted by hostiles.

It is not only air conditioned for the tropical climate, but also to cool the electronics. It truly is a next generation fighting vehicle.
