A Slovak Air Force Mil Mi-17 'Hip-H' utility helicopter crashed on 28 July, killing the pilot and severely injuring the other two crew members.
The helicopter had been flying from Presov, the home base of the 'Jána Ambrusa' Helicopter Wing, and crashed near the village of Hradisko.
Slovakia's remaining Mi-17s have been grounded, except those used for search and rescue, with the incident under investigation by the Slovak Military Aviation Authority.
Before the crash Slovakia had 17 ageing Mi-17s in service, although only 10 of these were believed to be operational. The county announced in April that it would buy nine Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters from the United States to replace them.
