KADDB rolls out self-propelled gun
The King Abdullah II Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) is showing its 105mm self-propelled (SP) gun at SOFEX (Hall 5). This consists of a 4x4 cross-country truck chassis, on the rear of which is mounted the US 105mm M102 towed howitzer with powered elevation and traverse.
Other types of weapon could be fitted, including the more widely deployed 105mm M101 that uses the same family of ammunition as the M102.
The system is operated by a crew of three plus the driver and carries a quantity of ready-use 105mm ammunition. To provide a more stable firing position, a hydraulically operated outrigger is deployed either side before firing commences. A 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun can be mounted on the cab roof for self-defence purposes.
When compared with conventional towed artillery systems, this truck-mounted system has a number of advantages, including greater cross-country mobility and reduced into and out of action times. This makes it more survivable because it is less vulnerable to counter-battery fire and allows ‘shoot and scoot’ tactics to be used.
