Not so long ago I read it in the news about a joint naval drill in the Mediterranean sea where a French nuclear attack submarine was put against an entire American carrier group. The result? The carrier along with most of its escorts were sunk by the French submarine (not physically of course).

It was said that the result was posted on the French military's web site (if I remember correctly), but it was removed shortly after. I guess it was for "saving face"?

The conclusion for this drill is, a single attack submarine poses great threat to even an entire fleet. It was also said that the French submarine was one of the smaller nuclear submarines which made it harder to detect.

Have you guys heard of this story?
So what do you guys think?

This was a simulated event. Though this exercise would have been executed to be near to realistic as could be I am wondering if this was a real scenario the result would be the same. These carriers also possess a range of sophisticated equipment to detect and counter the submarines and the submarines also has its share of stealthy features. I believe in a real situation it could have been different and it would depend mostly on the manoeuvres and tactics of the commanders.

Well I know it was simulated since no live fire was involved. I agree that the outcome might be different every time even if you do the exactly same simulation multiple times. Yes, the commanders' decisions and strategies/tactics must have played a major role.

Of course the carrier group has lots of anti-sub assets, that is why the outcome of this simulation was so important to show that even with all the anti-sub equipment, the submarine still managed to sink most of its enemies.

Did this happen before or after the French decided to write a fictitious story that can't be verified while they continue to wave their white flag and eat cheese as they surrender? lol I can't find that story anywhere, let alone any reference to it. They have a great future in short stories, but probably not the military.

If I remember correctly, I saw the news on Yahoo within a month or so. In the news they said it quite clearly that the original report from the French web site was removed shortly after it appeared.

Anyway, if you can't find any information at all about this story, then it could mean ... all related information were removed. lol... Unless you tell me I was reading Yahoo news in my dream. o_O If it was just a dream, how could I remember small details such as the relative small size of the French nuclear sub, etc. %-}

I also hope you do not see others with bias. The French military actually did the main fighting in American independence, but of course the mainstream propaganda in the US does not want you to know that. ;)
