Sudan defense industry has developed a full range of military combat and armoured vehicles.
During the latest defense exhibition IDEX in United Arab Emirates, Sudan Defense Industry has presented a full range of military equipment and combat vehicles. Sudan’s Military Industry Corporation (MIC) has one of the largest exhibition area at IDEX 2015.

Army Recognition Group Web TV has the chance to make an exclusive interview with MIC representatives regarding the latest combat vehicles presented at IDEX 2015.

One of the biggest vehicle was the Khalifa-1 a 122 mm wheeled self-propelled howitzer based on modified 6x6 Kamaz 43118 truck chassis with a D-30 Russian-made howiter mounted at the rear of the chassis.

The Khalifa truck mounted 122mm self-propelled howitzer perfectly combines mobility and fire power with the use of cross-country truck chassis and a large caliber howitzer. The Khalifa is operated by a crew of 5 soldiers, and has a combat weight of 20,500 kg. The system can be ready to fire between travelling and combat position within 90 seconds.

The howitzer barrel is electric-operated, with an elevation in the firing arc outside the vehicle cabin from -5° to +70°, or firing above cabin from +15° to +70°. The vehicle can fire at a maximum rate of 8 rounds/min, with a maximum range of 17 km. A total of 45 rounds are carried onboard the vehicle. When the system is deployed in the firing position a large spade is lowered at the rear to provide a more stable firing platform.

The second artillery vehicle presented at IDEX 2015 by MIC was the Khatim-2 in mortar carrier version. The rear part of the vehicle is fitted with a 120mm mortar mounted on a manual turntable which can be rotated on 360°.

The mortar can fire from inside the vehicle through an opening in the roof covered by two large hatches. For its self-protection the vehicle is also armed with a 12.7mm machine mounted at the front of the mortar compartment.

The vehicle is based on the chassis of the Iranian Boraq-2 IFV, which is similar to the Russian BMP-1 but with another suspension.

The Taka is light MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) based on a a modified South Korean produced 4x4 light truck KIA.
The layout of the vehicle is similar to a light tactical vehicle with the engine at the front, the crew compartment in the middle and the cargo area at the rear. A 107mm multi-rocket launcher is mounted at the rear of the vehicle.

The 107mm rocket launcher system of the Taka seems similar to the Chinese-made Type 63 with 12 launcher tubes arranged in three lines of four tubes each. All the tubes are parallel to each other and mounted co-axially on a cradle.

The 107mm rocket launcher system is mounted on a fixed superstructure and can fire only on the left side of the vehicle. The rockets can be fired to maximum range of 8.500m.

The Sarsar-2 is 4x4 armoured reconnaissance vehicle based on a modified 1.2 ton South Korean KIA light truck chassis, but fitted with armour to provide protection against firing of small arms and shell splinters.
The layout of the vehicle is very similar to light combat vehicle with the engine at the front, the crew in the middle and the troops compartment at the rear.

The top of the vehicle is fitted with an open top turret which can be armed with a 12.7mm machine gun. The Sarsar-2 can carry a total of 11 military personnel including commander, driver, gunner and 8 infantrymen.

Each side of the troops compartment is fitted with four small bulletproof windows and firing ports, the rear part of the vehicle is fitted with a single door.

The layout of the vehicle is very similar to a civilian pickup with the engine at the front, the crew compartment in the middle and the cargo area at the rear.
