Sweden receives first series-produced Archer SPA

Sweden has begun receiving series-produced FH-77 BW L52 Archer 155 mm (6x6) self-propelled artillery (SPA) systems from BAE Systems.

The first delivery on 28 September comes two years after the first pre-series production vehicles were delivered in September 2013.

Sweden has 24 Archer systems on order to replace the Haubits 77B (FH-77B) 155 mm towed howitzer. The programme has been beset by problems since a joint Swedish-Norwegian production contract was signed in March 2010. The programme has been hit by repeated delays, and suffered a major blow in December 2013 when Norway pulled out its order for 24 Archer systems.

That thing looks pretty crazy to be honest. I have to admit that I did not expect it to look like what it does, I was more expecting a tracked vehicle rather than something looking like a truck.

Still it's good to see that Sweden is starting to take delivery of them.
