(Zaman al-Wasl)- The Syrian Regime Air Force leadership put fighter Mig-21 squadron out of service, military sources said.
The so-called '946 squadron' in Khelkheleh air base was a key fatal weapon in killing the Syrian people.
The regime source told Zaman al-Wasl, “the warplanes in this squadron are considered one of the oldest in the world. They are of Mig-21 type. Most of the warplanes have expired during the revolution either because rebels destroyed them or because of a fire crash in the air due to engine explosion. Also, some of the warplanes have been overused and hence lost their preparedness and could not be restored.”
According to the source, the squadron lost at least 6 warplanes which either were downed by itself or during bombing Syrian cities. The rest of the warplanes which are 12 have died and could not be restored.
There are two reasons why the squadron 946 was removed from the 73 Bridge. The first is they technically reached a dead end and cannot take off even for a training flight. The second is the shortage in human resources because many have defected from regime army and many were detained. Also, many pilots were killed or injured, according to the source.
He added the 73 Brigade leadership informed the General Directorate of Air Force they are no longer capable of qualifying any new pilots to fly the Mig-21 planes as well as they cannot prepare these fighters for any flights because they died and they do not have any source for spare parts which were coordinated in Russia 30 years ago.
The source confirmed the Syrian Regime Air Force leadership resolved to remove the whole squadron and incorporate its human capital in Hama military airport where Mig-21 is still functioning.
