Yet another display of U.S hypocrisy. Not too long ago a B-52 bomber was flown over an Island claimed by China. That didn't raise tension? Taiwan's president can visit the Island if he pleases. Sure it could raise tensions but what difference would that make? The conflict between Taiwan and China has lasted decades. In any case China still says Taiwan is part of China.

War with China is inevitable if Taiwan keeps pushing for independence, a Chinese general says - Quartz
“We have promised that ‘Chinese people will never fight Chinese people,’ but if ‘Taiwan’s separatist’ forces continue to press us into a corner, we will be left with no choice but to seek ‘reunification by force,'” wrote Luo Yuan, a retired People’s Liberation Army general in a commentary (link in Chinese) published Monday (Jan. 25) in the nationalistic state tabloid Global Times. The high-ranking ex-general’s prominent essay in a state newspaper is an apparent warning signal to Tsai [Taiwan's new president].

I don't think it will raise tension. As already stated, China considers Taiwan to be a part of China, so according to them, it was just a visit by someone from their own country. Also, when push comes to shove, China will occupy Taiwan within hours, and then all this talk of tension will disseminate.
