China's steady acquisition of advanced weaponry has driven ambitious Taiwanese to procure stealth fighters, advanced jet trainers, long range unmanne reconnaisance and aircraft deployed mines like the Quickstrike series. Among Chinese programs spurring Taiwan's response are Su-35 fighter aircraft and long range S-300 surface to air missiles systems.

Whatever Taiwan buys, it will only temporarily keep up with China at the best. After all, the military capability is based on the budget. The gap between military spending will only widen. Taiwan can only keep it up to a certain point of (the balance) no return.

S-300? China already had hundreds batteries of S-300. Their own HQ-9 has similar capability. Now they are about to buy S-400, and the deal was already signed.

As for jets, China have two stealth fighters in development. Once in service, they can mass produce them cheaper than Taiwan can buy.

Chinese navy is also building warships at faster pace than ever. No amount of buying can keep up with mass producing at lower cost.
