Today, the oldest national flag in the world turns 800 years. Here’s how the Royal Danish Air Force celebrated the “Dannebrog”.

On Jun. 15, Denmark celebrates Valdemarsdag, the anniversary of King Valdemar’s victory in the Battle of Lindanise (present day Tallinn, Estonia) in 1219. According to the legend, on that day 800 years ago, the flag of Denmark “Dannebrog” (which translates to “the cloth of the Danes” or the “red flag”) fell from the sky.

The RDAF celebrated the 800th anniversary of Dannebrog with a special painted F-16 that took part in a flyover across Denmark.

Here are some cool shots of the F-16 in the Donnebrog livery from Fighter Wing Skrydstrup.
