But as the tragic events in Brussels demonstrate once again, home and away are not so easily separated.

Indeed, in a fundamental sense, the problems of a fragmenting Middle East are fast-becoming Europe's problems too.

Whether it be terrorism, the tide of migration, Libya's future, Iran's nuclear policies, or the problematic relationship with Turkey, the wider Middle East is now intruding into the European consciousness on a day-to-day basis.

In some ways, this is a reversion to a long-standing historical norm.

Think back to the colonial era, when France, Italy and Great Britain controlled huge swathes of territory in the Middle East.

The collapse of the Ottoman Empire in the wake of the World War One prompted an expansion of the French and British government's responsibilities in the region, with mandates in Syria and Palestine.

It is a shame that it's now more in our focus now that it's affecting us directly, for years we ignored the goings on unless there was benefit. It's obvious that the European drawn map of the middle east needs to be re-thought and let the local populations have a hand in the divisions of regions. Not simple though

To me, the ongoing migration is a world problem because those humans with no homes will stay wherever they can instead of going back. Squatters is our problem in Metro Manila, they are mostly migrants from the provinces. They don't want to go back tgo their homes for economic and personal reasons. The government even had a program of giving those migrants money for transportation and capital for a small business but only few are takers.

The migrants leaving their country are not only for economic reasons but survival and safety of their lives. Compared to the migrants here, those Middle East migrants are in dire need of a home.

I don't think that anybody in Europe is saying that the genuine refugees, those in dire need of a home as you put it, can't stay and shouldn't be helped. What we're more concerned about is those that are simply coming over here for financial gains, and to cause acts of terrorism.

Sadly, we don't know which is which and until we do then maybe the borders need to be shut tighter rather than opened up even more like Merkel wanted.

Many of these problems have been created by the actions of these European countries and their allies, who have tried to undermine governments in the Middle East that they were not in favour of. They sought to create unrest to oust the regimes that they didn't like and replace them with a government that served their interests. However, this situation has only served to destabilize the region and have created monsters like ISIS.
The Europeans and their allies should not now back down from solving the refugee crisis that they have helped to create.

Implementation of laws are so black and white, either innocents will suffer or guilty ones get away with wrong doings.
I would hate to be someone who had to arrange policies to try and combat the issue - never going to be 100% right and you're bound to upset someone

Well, migrations are not only Europe's problem. It is global but the truth is that Europe will have more problems then anyone else. These people just want to escape the terrors of war and famine and they want a new life whatever that might be. Even in Serbia we have some safe places and resources for these people in need. We all need to help each other but in these crazy world that is not always simple. Some people will use everything for gaining something and these migrations will be used to conquer Europe day by day.

Well the saying goes that you can never please all of the people all of the time, but at the moment nobody is being pleased by the decisions that have been, and are still being made.

The situation hasn't changed in the last few weeks as far as I can see, so where do we go from here? I'm not saying that I have the answers, but that's why we vote in the people that are supposed to come up with the answers, but as far as the UK is concerned, David Cameron is more concerned with hiding his own problems than trying to fix the countries.

Nobody is arguing the fact that the west played its part in destabilising the middle east, but how is opening up the borders to refugees going to help the situation?

We know that not all these so called refugees are coming into western Europe with the sole intention of escaping a war torn region, they're coming over to cause terrorist acts.

To say that we should allow that to happen is like saying that Paris and Brussels deserved to be attacked because it's just there way of getting their own back on France and Belgium for their part in what's happened in the middle east.
