Turkey Dispatches Another Batch of Troops to Qatar Amid Gulf Crisis
27.12.2017

The crisis between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors erupted earlier in June, with the latter demanding Qatar to close the Turkish military base on its territory.

Turkey has sent another group of its troops to Qatar amid the diplomatic crisis between Doha and its Arab neighbors, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt, the Qatari Defense Minister announced on Wednesday as quoted by Turkey's Daily Sabah news outlet.

The troops that arrived at Al Udeid Air Base in southern Doha the day before, will join another group of Turkish soldiers, which were previously stationed at the Tariq bin Ziyad military base in Qatar.

The deployment comes as part of the 2014 deal between Doha and Ankara, with Turkey establishing its military base in the Gulf country at the request of the latter's government. Two years later, the countries signed a deal that stipulated the deployment of Turkish troops to Qatar.
The first group of Turkish soldiers arrived in Qatar this June and held their first drills at the Tariq bin Ziyad military base in August.

The ministry noted that with the new groups of soldiers, the countries would have more military drills aimed at strengthening their defense capabilities.

In early June, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic relations with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and meddling in their internal affairs. Kuwait, acting as a mediator in the crisis, handed an ultimatum to Doha containing 13 demands on behalf of the four states. The list included requests to sever Qatar’s relations with Iran, close Turkey’s military base in Qatar and shut down the Al Jazeera broadcaster, as well as to end support for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Turkey is trying to score a point nothing more nothing less. There is no military action against Qatar and if there was neither Turkey nor anyone else can defend Qatar period. Qatar is geographically small and it has only one border and that is with Saudi Arabia. One platoon can conquer Qatar in a matter of an hour. Turkey thinks we would respect their presence in Qatar and de-escalate the situation. Its very basic in the military that without air support land forces cannot move an inch. Soldiers who cant protect themselves against unarmed civilians are not going to protect themselves when things get real.

Turkey, by scoring points is actually flaming the situation, and the Qataris are at the loosing end. They are spending exorbitant amounts on basic necessities. The embargo is hurting them, and thier people.

False bravado should be discarded, and common sense should prevail. The Qataris, should de-escalate, give a little, take a little, and get on with life. Qataris have extended Families in Bahrain, KSA and UAE, they should not suffer.

Turkey, who wants to be a leader, is behaving rather irresponsibly, instead of diffusing the situation, it is trying to escalate it.

anyone else can defend Qatar

Then good luck trying to occupy Qatar. Try first to analyze who divided Ethiopia, Suda, Somalia and supported instability in Africa ?
What BS is the pic you posted ? They were conscripts who laid down all weapons and were almost lynched by the mob.

You are acting like the Mullah of Iran now. Qatar is part of the GCC states and whatever issues are there are going to be dealt with on the table or inside the Arab League. There is no need for Turkey to jeopardize its relations with the entire region. Saudi Arabia and Turkey trades and defense relations surpass any relation in the region. Turkey should not a side in this rift instead remain natural. I believe GCC leaders are mature enough to sort their own issues. As for Sudan, if it was not Saudi Arabia, Sudan would have remained on the terror list remember that it was because of Saudi Arabia the sanctions are lifted. Sudan also is part of the Saudi-led coalition so please don't try to make things up to prove a point. Ethiopia and Somalia? what about them? When was the last time Turkey dispatched any kind of aid to Somalia?
