A water treatment plant with a capacity of 30,000 cubic meters of water per day has been commissioned in Kaka district of Turkmenistan's Ahal region, Trend reports referring to the country's Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.

The project has been implemented by a local enterprise, Mukaddes Toprak.

The new facility has modern equipment that provides high-quality water treatment.

Turkmenistan borders Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Afghanistan and uses water resources coming in accordance with agreed quotas from four trans-boundary rivers, namely, Amu Darya, Tejen, Atrek and Murgab.

Turkmenistan's north was affected by the Aral Sea’s drying. Especially, Dashoguz region was adversely affected by environmental catastrophe inasmuch as there are acute problems related to providing the population with clean drinking water and combating salinization of cultivation lands.

The Turkmen company Aga Gurlushik has begun construction of a plant for the manufacture of reinforced concrete products in the Gokdepe district of Ahal region of Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).

The design capacity of the plant is 500,000 meters of concrete pipes with a diameter of 300-1,200 millimeters.

The high-tech equipment, which is planned to be installed at the plant, will make it possible to manufacture products based on environmentally friendly technologies, the report said.

Production of cement is the priority direction of the building materials industry in Turkmenistan. The country’s plants produce Portland cement, grouting and sulphate resistant cement. Besides, the metallurgical and gas concrete plants in Owadandepe town in the Ahal region, also contribute to the diversification of the national economy.

Turkmen plants produce reinforced blocks, expanded clay, precast reinforced concrete products, ceramic bricks, facing slabs. Plants of large-panel housing construction designed for the production of reinforced concrete structures for the construction of multi-storey residential buildings and cottage-type houses have significantly increased their potential. The output of ceramic bricks, fittings, metal profiles, plastic and fiberglass pipes increased.

At the meeting of the Turkmen government, a proposal was made to join the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Program, Trend reports with reference to the Turkmenistan State News Agency.

The possibility of connecting Turkmenistan to the regional technical assistance project "Railway Sector Development in Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Countries" was discussed at the meeting.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that the CAREC Program is the most important mechanism for promoting economic regional cooperation, especially in such areas as transport, energy and trade.

Turkmenistan’s cooperation on this platform is of a strategic nature, the Turkmen president emphasized.

It was also noted that participation in the proposed project will have a positive impact on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the strengthening of partnership relations between the participating states of the program.

The CAREC program is being developed at the initiative of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in partnership with the UN Development Program, the World Bank (WB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

The main objective of this program is to assist in the implementation of investment projects in the field of transport, trade and energy, aimed at accelerated socio-economic development of the states of the region of Central Asia.

The potential of Turkmenistan in the logistics of transit flows should be assessed taking into account the Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran transnational railway line, the Kerki-Ymamnazar (Turkmenistan) -Akina (Afghanistan) railway, the first line of the Asian International Transport Corridor, the railway and road bridges across the Amu Darya, modern airports in Ashgabat, Turkmenbashi and Turkmenabat cities.

An Emirati company, Dragon Oil, which has been operating in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea for more than 18 years, has invested over $6.6 billion in the development of offshore fields, Dragon Oil Assistant CEO Faisal Rabee Al Awadhi said in an interview with the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper, Trend reports.

He said that during this period, the average daily hydrocarbon production increased more than tenfold - from 7,000 barrels per day in 2000 to 80–100,000 barrels.

In 2018, the company produced over 4 million tons of oil, he noted.

Dragon Oil expressed interest in extending the contract, which expires in 2025, and presented a number of proposals in this regard, he added.

During the period of work in Turkmenistan, the company reconstructed the existing and constructed five new operational offshore fixed platforms and three nodal platforms.

Dozens of new wells were commissioned. Jackup rigs "Elima", "Neptune" and "Caspian Driller", as well as rigs "Sakson" and "Nis" mounted at offshore fixed platforms, are involved in the drilling operations.

In addition, an oil complex preparation and pumping workshop, 14 storage tanks for raw materials with a total capacity of about 1.8 million barrels and other facilities were built.

Construction of additional oil storage facilities and pipelines at the Aladzha oil-loading terminal made it possible to simultaneously load two tankers, and this increased the company’s export capacities.

The company has containers with special equipment for the removal of oil and other pollutants from the water surface and in the coastal zone.

For the round-the-clock duty at the fields, high-speed rescue ships CM Rescue by Caspian Mainport Int. and Topaz Responder by BUE Marine, which have modern equipment, are leased for elimination of oil spills.

A tender is being held to buy additional equipment to respond to such situations, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The company operates under the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the development of the oil-bearing sections of the Jeitun (Lam) and Jigalybek (Zhdanov) fields, signed in 1999.

The company's shares are listed on the London and Dublin exchanges (stock exchange ticker: DGO), the company’s main shareholder is Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC).

The company conducts its activity mainly in the Eastern sector of the Southern Caspian Basin in the contract area of Cheleken. This area is nearly 950 square kilometers. It includes the Jeitun, Jigalybek and Chelekenyangummez deposits.

The estimated and proven reserves of oil and condensate in the contractual area amount to 663 million barrels. The contingent reserves of oil and condensate total 63 million barrels. The gas reserves amount to 1.3 trillion cubic feet. The prospective gas resources are 1.3 trillion cubic feet.

Bahrain’s Gulf Petrochemical Industries (GPIC) company has signed a number of agreements with Turkmenistan’s state concerns in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, Trend reports referring to the Turkmengas state concern.

Memorandums of understanding on cooperation were signed with the Turkmengas and Turkmenhimiya state concerns, along with confidentiality agreements.

GPIC has been discussing joint projects with Turkmenistan since the beginning of the year.

It was reported earlier that a number of innovative gas processing complexes were being planned for construction in Turkmenistan, including the second stage of the plant in Owadandepe (Ahal Region) for the production of synthetic gasoline. In the coastal town of Kiyanly (Balkan Region), it is planned to build one gas-chemical complex for the production of polypropylene, linear low density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, as well as caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, and liquid chlorine.

Moreover, a project is being developed for the construction of a plant in Kiyanly for the production of methyldiethanolamine (MDEA), through the processing of 4,000 tons of ethylene gas and 2,000 tons of methanol per year.

Intermediate products of neighboring gas chemical complexes will be used as raw materials. Carbamide, polyethylene, polypropylene, and polypropylene film are among the products in demand abroad – all of which are already produced in Turkmenistan. According to a report by British Petroleum (BP), Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world in terms of natural gas reserves and currently exports it to China and Iran. Negotiations are underway to resume the supply of this of fuel to Russia.
