Turkmenistan has become one of the largest suppliers of polyethylene to the Russian Federation. The products of the new gas chemical complex in Kiyanly were first put up for sale through the State Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange of Turkmenistan last fall and prompted great interest among representatives of Russian business circles.
According to experts, it led to the rapid growth of imports of low-density polyethylene in the Russian Federation. During the four months of 2019, it reached a record level of almost 108 thousand tons. This is 27 thousand tons more than in the same period of 2018.
The top five countries in terms of supply of these products include Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Finland, South Korea and Thailand.
Russian entrepreneurs are purchasing high-density polyethylene intended for the manufacture of water and gas pipes, as well as for the production of household and technical items.
The demand for Turkmen polypropylene also remains high. In recent years, Turkmenistan has been the leader in supplying this type of polymer to the Russian market, leaving Germany, South Korea, Finland, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Austria, Uzbekistan, Italy, the Netherlands, and China behind.
According to the Federal Customs Service of Russia, plastic products ranks first in the list of goods imported from Turkmenistan. The total cost of polymers supplied to the Russian Federation from Turkmenistan in the first quarter of 2019 is more than $18 million. This is 78 percent more than in the same period last year. Compared with the first quarter of 2017, the volume of polymer supplies to the Russian market increased by more than 5 times.
This major investment project in Kiyanly, worth $3.4 billion, was carried out by Korean and Japanese companies and was commissioned in October 2018. The production capacity of the complex makes it possible to process 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
At this large enterprise equipped with advanced technologies, it is possible to annually produce 386 thousand tons of high-quality polyethylene and 81 thousand tons of polypropylene. Over a thousand new jobs were created at the plant.

I'm shocked that Turkmenistan is really increasing open economic ties, with many foreign countries especially westwards, I remember when he only wanted limited economics with Turkey, China, Russia and a few others.

They ran into an economic slowdown, and had to look for other alternatives so they starting opening relations with western countries to help develop them. currently Turkey & Switzerland is investing in their agricultural industry, South Korea heavily invested in their ship building capabilities, Japan gives them car manufacturing and so on. so they are breaking the oil/electricity monopoly dependency they had going on for a long while, however they are still modernizing oil industries and electricity industries.

Russia and Turkmenistan plan to launch joint cruise tours in the Caspian Sea in 2020, Trend reports referring to Russian media.
Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan Region Igor Babushkin told RIA Novosti that route options have been developed, including the main one from Astrakhan across the Caspian Sea, with entering the ports of Aktau, Turkmenbashi, Baku and Makhachkala cities.
“I discussed the issue of visiting the Avaza tourist zone and the port of Turkmenbashi with representatives of Turkmenistan,” the governor said in a statement. “An agreement was reached that a tour operator will be determined from the Turkmen side. I’m sure that both Iran and Azerbaijan will enthusiastically support this idea and the possibility of cruise communication.”
In March it was reported that the first cruise called “Treasures of the East” along the Caspian Sea on Russia’s motor ship “Pyotr Velikiy” (Peter the Great) is planned in 2020.
The Association of Tour Operators of Russia noted that in accordance with the plan, the motor ship will complete the cruise program (11 days/10 nights) Baku (Azerbaijan) – Bandar-e Anzali (Iran) - Nowshahr (Iran) - Turkmenbashi (Turkmenistan) - Aktau (Kazakhstan) - Astrakhan - Makhachkala/Derbent - Baku. Then, as it is supposed, the ship will make a cruise to the Black Sea for the winter, performing the program “The Adventure on the Three Seas”.
The cost of cruise tours is estimated at around $227 per person per day. In total, the ship is designed for 310 passengers. Tourists will have access to several restaurants, bars, swimming pool, SPA center and much more.
Tourism industry holds a special place in the strategic plans of Turkmenistan. One example is the Awaza resort being built on the Caspian shores, the country's first free economic zone, where tax and customs privileges are granted to working investors, firms and companies
