Turkmenistan receives air defence systems from China

the sale of the air defence systems marked the entrance of the China's potential weapon sales to further in the area. Turkmenistan acquired the HQ-7B, HQ-12/KS-1A, and HQ-9 surface to air missiles, significantly boosting up their air defence. for a while their main, best air defense system was the S-200. The Chinese also supplied Turkmenistan with QW-2 MANPADs.

this has to do with us buying huge amount of Turkmen oil and gas, plus the S-300 models that were offered by Russia were not as advanced as say the S-300PMU2 the Azerbaijanis, because if I remember right the Azerbaijanis have an arms race with Turkmenistan plus Turkmenistan was/is looking to diversify quite a bit

they did have an arms race but due to the Turkmen economy partially in the cripple it been halt since the midst of last year. of course the Turkmens were probably going for 2nd hand Russian S-300P systems because they did not have the sort of cash to buy a battery of PMU2s. but lately with the Turkmens it seems as long as the system fits their requirement they could care less where the system originates from.
