That's time where you wonder what happened. The U.S. Department of Defense spent $43 million on building a gas station in Afghanistan, or more than 140 times than a similar project that happened in Pakistan. The other countries' price are usually between $200,000 & $500,000.
The idea was to use natural gas available locally instead of importing oil, which is way more costly and given the Middle East relationships, independence on that topic would be good.
The report was published by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, watching how U.S. spent the $110 billions in Afghanistan since 2002.
It was built to see if economy was interested in such natural gas industry. U.S. military was unable to provide an explanation for the cost of the project.
