During a work visit to the Odessa Ukroboronprom Aircraft Plant, the minister said that the upgraded plane will give the Ukrainian Air Force clear control during combat and improve its effectiveness.
Poltorak noted that the plant is currently upgrading a Su-24MR which has not been seriously upgraded since Soviet times.
“The plant has done serious work to develop the technical documentation, and today it is ready to modernize these planes. After the modernization is completed, it will be an entirely different craft – a reconnaissance craft that will allow the Ukrainian Air Force to exercise clear control during combat, improve their effectiveness, and most importantly, all the information necessary to make decisions during combat will be received by the combat leader online,” the Defense Minister explained.
Recently, Poltorak announced that the unique fire control system of the Obolon-A artillery system will be adopted by the Armed Forces of Ukraine after the state testing has been successfully completed.
According to the SIPRI database, Ukraine has been increasing its military expenditure. Last year the country spent $4.8 billion on defense.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister also said recently that the Armed Forces have acquired 120 new types of equipment which the country’s military did not previously possesses.

Саудівська Аравія протягом останніх десяти років виявляє інтерес щодо перспективного українського танку нового покоління. Мова йде про розвиток проекту, який за радянських часів отримав позначення - &
It is a question of the development of a project, which in the Soviet times received the designation - "object 477".
This was on the air of the "Line of Defense" program, Sergei Berezutsky, an expert on armored vehicle engineering company "Science technology", said.
According to him, he participated in the development of this project in the 80's. Repeatedly received information about the possible participation of the running model of the latest tank in the parade (before 2014). However, it was kept secret.
Despite the fact that the design of the tank began more than 40 years ago, the ideas that underlie the concept of this tank are still promising, says S. Berezutsky:
" The armor does not have analogues, the charging mechanism, the 152 mm gun, the seven-channel fire control system. It was based on the Soviet elemental basis of those times. The screen was pixel-sized with a fist. So, with the use of modern electronics it would be possible to make a Tank which, as Americans say, is a game-changer. This is a real treasure of our defense industry. "
The expert believes that the further development and start of production of these tanks is "more than possible, it is necessary". He believes that the demand for tanks of this type will be "extraordinary".
Reference: Works on the tank of the new generation began in Kharkov at the KMDB after the Soviet era. After the collapse of the USSR, the work on the tank, which received the conventional name "
" (object 477A1) lasted until the 2000s

Ukrainian troops rehearse Russian invasion scenario from Azov Sea
Monday, June 3, 2019
Troops from Ukraine’s Joint Forces Operation (JFO) practiced repelling a virtual enemy landing force coming from the Azov Sea, the JFO headquarters reported on Facebook.
With the support of tanks, artillery and aircraft, the anti-landing reserve forces “destroyed” the imaginary enemy’s first wave of landing forces, and did not allow the second wave to land.
The drill was conducted because the “waters and the Ukrainian coast of the Sea of Azov still remain high-risk zones for growing military aggression by our northern neighbor”. The JFO notes that the Ukrainian army is preparing for all possible tactical scenarios in the Azov region.
Recently the Ukrainian military also conducted an exercise on the Tendra Spit in the Kherson province, not far from the Crimean peninsula. The drill involved scouts from the 73rd Marine Center for Special Forces, which are known for their involvement in the anti-terrorist operation in the separatist-controlled Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The unit also fought in the battles of Debaltseve and Ilovaisk. During the exercise, the troops practiced boarding ships from helicopters and boats, “arresting and eliminating” the imaginary enemy.

June 19 (UPI) -- Ukraine will receive an additional $250 million in military aid, some of it for lethal weapons, from the United States, the Defense Department announced.
Sniper rifles, grenade launchers, counter-artillery radar, electronic warfare detection equipment and other material were on the list of items revealed on Tuesday.
The support also includes considerable training and advisory efforts by U.S. forces, notably for the Ukrainian navy, which has been unable to counter Russian naval forces in the Black Sea.
"The United States remains committed to helping Ukraine implement provisions of Ukraine's 2018 Law on National Security to strengthen democratic civilian control of the military, promote command and control reforms, enhance transparency and accountability in acquisition and budgeting, and advance defense industry reforms," the Pentagon said Tuesday in a statement. "These reforms will bolster Ukraine's ability to defend its territorial integrity in support of a secure, prosperous, democratic, and free Ukraine."
Russia seized the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine in 2014, and has supported separatist militants in the eastern Ukrainian region known as the Donbas. In a 2018 naval incident in the Kerch Strait, 24 Ukrainian seamen were captured by the Russian navy as three Ukrainian ships were fired upon and seized. Those captured remain in detention pending criminal proceedings.
Since the Kerch Strait incident, NATO countries' navies have expanded their activities in the Black Sea. The additional U.S. aid will bring total U.S. support of the Ukrainian military to $1.5 billion since 2014.
In September, the U.S. Coast Guard handed two Island-class cutters, each armed with .50 caliber machine guns and 25 mm deck guns, to the Ukrainian navy.
The aid can be regarded as a win for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, an untested show business personality turned politician who was elected earlier this year on an anti-corruption platform. Zelensky traveled to NATO headquarters in Brussels for his first official trip as leader, and earlier this week in Paris called for continued pressure on Moscow.
