Ukraine's state-owned defence industrial group Ukroboronprom and Belgium's CMI Defence have teamed up to offer the Royal Thai Army (RTA) the BTR-3E 8x8 armoured personnel carrier (APC) fitted with CMI's CSE 90LP (low pressure) turret armed with CMI's 90 mm Mk III gun system.
An industry source with direct knowledge of the arrangement confirmed to IHS Jane's on 4 February that RTA testing of the vehicle took place in Thailand in late January. The source said the trials took place before a potential RTA programme to procure additional BTR-3E APCs.
In 2008 and 2011 the RTA ordered a total of more than 200 BTR-3 APCs, with deliveries continuing through 2015.
