A request for tender (RfT) for the first tranche of what will be the Australian Army's largest-ever acquisition programme will be released in early 2015, the project's website disclosed on 10 December.
Project Land 400, costed at more than AUD10 billion (USD8.3 billion), will see the replacement of the army's ageing fleets of ASLAV light armoured vehicles and M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers between 2020 and 2025.
The website referred to a formal announcement by government early in January in relation to Project 400 Phase 2 - Mounted Combat Reconnaissance Capability - with an RfT released shortly afterwards. The announcement is expected to refer to the project receiving first pass approval, although IHS Jane's understands this has already been granted.
