Deposed President Ali Abdullah Saleh has sent envoys to a number of GCC capitals in an effort to gain safe exit for himself and his family out of Yemen by denying his links to Houthi militias, Al Arabiya News Channel reported citing a GCC official.

The diplomat said Saleh’s envoys were visiting Gulf capitals to enhance Saleh’s image. The envoys have also reportedly declared that Saleh is bankrupt, which the Gulf state official in turn called morally and politically bankrupt.

This is not the first time that Saleh has reached out to the Gulf states.

His son, Ahmed, had reportedly told Saudi authorities that he would turn against the Houthi militias in return for immunity for him and his father.

Ahmed Saleh suggested a deal that would see him, Saleh’s eldest son, launch a coup against the Shiite group with 5,000 security personnel loyal to Saleh and 100,000 members of the Saleh-aligned remnants of the republican guard units.

Ahmed took up his post as the Yemeni ambassador to the UAE in 2013.

On Wednesday, the Gulf Cooperation Council welcomed a U.N. Security Council resolution imposing an arms embargo against the Houthi militias, which also blacklisted the country’s deposed president Saleh.

Saudi Arabia is leading a 10-state coalition against the Houthi militias, whom Saleh had allied himself with as they took control of the country’s capital earlier this year.

Disgusting person. His name will always be cursed.

He is sick, have you heard the leaked recording of him asking his followers to destroy every beautiful thing in Yemen. How can a sane person say such thing.

He has been given many chances before but refused and rejected the proposal given to him and his Houthi thugs. Now the ball is in our field.

Does Saudi Arabia have armed drones? If so they should consider deploying them in Taiz and Lahaj provinces. I believe Aden is largely clear of Houthis. Armed drones can hit personnel on ground. Or request it from the US,I'm sure the US would reject. US media has not been happy with this operation. US government as well seems to want Saudi Arabia to lose.

How long could this go? Is there an endgame here?

Yes, Saudi Arabia and UAE both have armed drones. Im sure they are used in this operation. Many ex president loyal battalions have defected and joined the anti-Houthi locals. There is clear advancement in the ground against Houthis and Ex president Saleh.

i believe the west will be embarrassed if we were successful in this operation. it will make them look really bad! thats why in my personal opinion they dont want this to be easy on us!
by the way.. why the hell dont they put an apache helicopter on board the ships in south yemen so they can be close enough to attack houthis and saleh in aden ?! i dont know whats happening but they should add more pressure and be more aggressive!
