S-70 Okhotnik-B multi-role drone (UAV)

On the 3rd August, 2019, Russia tested successfully her indigenously built stealth capabilities S-70 Okhotnik-B multi-role drone (UAV) at the Chkalov State Flight Test Center in Astrakhan (near the Caspian Sea). Actually, S-70 Okhotnik-B multi-role drone (UAV) has designed jointly Sukhoi Russian Aircraft Corporation and MIG Corporation. It is also manufactured by Russian Novosibirsk Aircraft Production Association Plant. The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video on the 7th August, 2019 showing the first flight of a prototype stealth drone (UAV). The flying-wing drone circled for twenty minutes around two thousand feet above before coming down for a landing. It is specially designed for combat air mission as well as serve in a surveillance and electronic warfare role in the sky. It may actively come in service in 2025.

This is a game changer for Russia. Would be an even bigger game changer for China. Imagine Chinese factories churning out hundreds and hundreds of these. No pilots need to lose their lives or get trained on it. No need for long MTBF and durable airframes - as no need for training.

Two Italian F-35s flying in formation with a Challenger CL-604 of the Royal Danish Air Force. The aircraft in the background wears the old coating, while the one in the foreground wears the new one. (Photo: Royal Danish Air Force)

The new coating was already applied to US-built aircraft since 2017, but this seems to be the first time it’s applied to aircraft assembled internationally

The F-16's Replacement Won’t Have a Pilot at All
Somehow, Skyborg will be an operational weapon system in just three years.

AIR FORCE RESEARCH LAB
  • The U.S. Air Force is planning to field an operational combat drone by 2023.
  • The service says Skyborg will replace older weapon-slinging drones and even early models of the F-16.
  • Skyborg will be reusable but could be sacrificed in combat if necessary

The US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Japan of 105 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft and related equipment for an estimated cost of $23.11 billion.
FB_IMG_1594482301731.jpg

The Government of Japan has requested to buy 63 F-35A Conventional TakeOff and Landing (CTOL) aircraft and 42 F-35B Short Take-Off and Vertical Landing (STOVL) aircraft, the announcement from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said Thursday.

This is the single biggest foreign sale of the F-35 fighter jets. In preparation of the F-35B purchase, Japan has already started upgrading its Izumo helicopter carrier which is expected to house some of the STOVL jets.

The deal includes 110 Pratt and Whitney F135 engines (includes 5 spares). Also included are Electronic Warfare Systems; Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence/Communications, Navigation and Identification; Autonomic Logistics Global Support System, Autonomic Logistics Information System; Flight Mission Trainer; Weapons Employment Capability, and other Subsystems. Features, and Capabilities; F-35 unique infrared flares; reprogramming center access and F-35
The proposed sale of aircraft and support will augment Japan's operational aircraft inventory and enhance its air-to-air and air-to-ground self-defense capability.

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force's F-4 aircraft will be decommissioned as F-35s are added to the inventory.

The prime contractors will be Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, Fort Worth, Texas; and Pratt and Whitney Military Engines, East Hartford, Connecticut.

The development of China's WS19 engine is progressing smoothly, and mass production expected to be tested next year.

FB_IMG_1594553925086.jpg

If the J-31/FC-31 can get a suitable engine, its overall performance will be greatly improved
. Judging from the current technical level and public information of China's aviation industry, the current FC-31 "Yingying" is not likely to have super-patrol capability at present. China's second fifth-generation aircraft FC-31 was initially rejected by the Air Force, and a large part of this decision was due to the engine.

Compared with the American F-35, which is also a carrier aircraft, the J-31 thrust with two WS19 turbofans is about 24 tons, while the F35 has only 21 tons thrust. The J-31 has an empty weight of only 14.5 tons and the F35 is as high as 15.7 tons. It is 1.2 tons higher. In terms of combat load, Chinese sources claim the J-31 will be better than the F-35 and will be able to perform more functions than the F-35.

If only equipped with RD-93, the J-31 would have a hard time achieving supersonic cruise, becoming an incomplete fifth-generation machine; equipped with turbofan 19, J31 with a higher thrust-to-weight ratio can easily achieve supersonic cruise. Before Chinese equipment with the J-20, China’s understanding of the gap between the fourth-generation machine and the fifth-generation machine was not very clear; after the J-20, the differences in various aspects began to stand out, and the navy and carrier aviation also demanded the fifth-generation aircraft.

At the 2018 Zhuhai Air Show, the big vector engine is not only the one that is equipped on the J-10B, but also a quietly lying on the stand, proclaiming China's second stealth fighter – J-31 will soon have a domestic turubofan engine; this engine is the turbofan 19 Huangshan medium thrust engine that had only appeared in rumors in the past two years. For a double-engine medium-sized fighter, the thrust and fuel consumption of the large thrust engine are too large, wasteful money, and poor cost-effectiveness; the most efficient method is to install two medium-thrust engines, and the WS19 is such an engine. China Aviation Industry Corporation had previously disclosed a vector engine with a maximum thrust of 9800Kgf. This engine is considered by the outside world to be the WS-19 "Huangshan" engine matched with FC-31. This project has produced and successfully completed the development of QC185, QC400, GT25000G military ship-borne turbine shaft blades, WS18, WS19 turbofan engine shaft blade development, 624 AT project drones and other models to attack the mission. In mid-2017, China Aviation Industry Corporation first published an engine model called "Turbofan-19" (WS-19) for a summary of the results of the "Shaft-type blade universal combination tester". Some military observers revealed on the Internet that "TurboFan-19" is a long-rumored new Chinese engine. It is similar to the name of "Taihang" and "Emei", and the name of "TurboFan-19" is "Huangshan". The target of the turbofan-19 is the F414 turbofan engine, which is larger than the European EJ200 engine in terms of maximum thrust.

At some airshows in China a few years ago, there was an unidentified medium-thrust engine more than once. The maximum afterburning thrust was 9500kgf. In terms of appearance, this engine not only has a structure similar to the Russian RD93. There are also similarities with the European and American F404 and EJ200 engines. However, this engine appeared in the air show, there is no follow-up related information to prove that it uses the official model and name.

According to information released by the Philippine News Agency, on July 9, 2020, the Philippine Air Force expects to receive six new A-29 Super Tucano Light Attack Aircraft manufactured by the Brazilian company Embraer, at the end of July 2020.

In November 2017, the Brazilian company Embraer has announced an order for six A-29 Super Tucano light attack and advanced training aircraft for the Philippine Air Force (PAF). After a comprehensive public bidding process participated by several manufacturers from around the globe and complying with the stringent evaluation processes the Super Tucano was selected as part of the PAF’s ongoing modernization plan.

The A-29 Super Tucano is a durable, versatile and powerful turboprop aircraft capable of carrying out a wide range of missions, even operating from unimproved runways. To date, the Super Tucano was selected by 15 air forces worldwide. Once the delivery of these aircraft is completed, they will be turned over to and maintained by the 15th Strike Wing, the PAF’s end-user.

The A-29 Super Tucano is powered by a PT6A-68A turboprop engine, developing 969kW. It can fly at a maximum speed of 593 km/h with a maximum range of 4,820 km and an endurance of 6 hours and 30 minutes.

The A-29 Super Tucano is fitted with five hardpoints able to carry 1,500 kg of weapons as bombs, air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles or rockets. The aircraft is also armed with two wing-mounted 12.7mm machine guns with a rate of fire of 1,100 rounds.
