I believe PN acquired 4 ATR airframes. this is the third being converted. Potentially we can get another converted later on.
These should NOT be considered full blown ASW aircraft but ASW lite. They lack MAD & sonobouys. However with Sea Spray radar, surface detection of snorkeling submarines can be done and it can deploy torpedoes and ASM. Potentially PN can use its stockpile of AM39 Exocets with these for surface warfare.

Do you see any flFull blown ASW aircraft (as defined by you) in near future for PN.

This is something I would like to see.

Both PAF/PN need to identify a common platform that can be used for future AEW/ISR/EW/ASW integration. Build in house capability of sensor integration at PAC and customize.

this is one that fits the bill for PN LRMPA requirement.

Sea Eagle is essentially Sea Spray 7300e AESA Radar + Safire FLIR EL/OP unit mated to a Leonardo Mission Mgmt System. I do not think ours have SonoBouy launch capability but that has been offered by RAS.

We need to build that capability of interfacing disparate systems together. When push came to shove, PAC was able to salvage Erieye system from damaged airframes and install on new airframes. That was mostly structural integration. Now imagine you build upon your Link-17/Naval datalink expertise to build interface b/w Sea Spray (or any Synthetic Aperture Radar) + EL/OP sensors + write your custom AI code to analyze and provide threat assessment output? And you are using COTS. Yes you will not get source code access to Sea Spray radar, but they will provide you with API level access i-e output result that you can consume in your own system.
BTW PAF uses Safire EL/OP system installed on C-130Bs to monitor ground targets.

Update on Pakistan Navy on ATR (RAS) 72

Pakistan Navy's ATR-72-500 arrived at Mochenglabach Germany.

The ATR-72 will be converted into Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA). This will be third aircraft to be converted into MPA role by Rheinlend Air Service.

After conversion it will be called as RAS-72-500 & will be most probably stationed at PNS Mehran.

The aircraft will be upgraded to the Sea Eagle configuration.

On Jun. 27, 2020, a Pakistan Navy ATR-72-500, with serial 77, arrived at Mönchengladbach airport, Germany, after a two-day flight. The aircraft departed PNS Mehran near Karachi, made an overnight stop at Izmir-Adnan Menderes and arrived in Germany at 10:15 in the morning.

The ATR will be converted by Rheinland Air Service (RAS) into a Maritime Patrol Aircraft version, called a RAS-72-500 “Sea Eagle”.

According to Janes Defense News, the RAS 72 Sea Eagle is equipped with a long-range, active electronically scanned array (AESA) multimode radar, as well as electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) sensors to deliver aerial, maritime, and ground surveillance, according to RAS.The platform also features an acoustic processing system, sonobuoy launchers, a broadband satellite communications system, an electronic support measures suite, a self-protection suite, and two weapon hard-points, enabling anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and maritime patrol capabilities. The PN’s two RAS 72 Sea Eagles also feature Aerodata’s mission management system, called AeroMission, for ASW.

“The RAS 72 multirole aircraft offers unrivalled efficiency as well as operational flexibility not only for anti-submarine warfare and maritime patrol missions, but also for search and rescue and other humanitarian operations. In addition to the MPA configuration, RAS can offer the ATR 72 with a complete range of interior configurations, from pure passenger cabin and troop transport to complex customization required for VIP guests as well as a variety of cargo options,” says RAS (a German company providing comprehensive FAA and EASA Part 145-approved aircraft maintenance, part-out services, and special mission modifications for commercial, business aircraft and military aircraft) on their official website.

The “77″ is the third Pakistan Navy ATR which will be converted by RAS to the “Sea Eagle” variant. Earlier the 78 and 79 where already equipped as Maritime Patrol Aircraft. A fourth ATR, the 76, could still be converted in the future.

with GE engine and honeywell Avionics we can not say its 100% secure systems but the safe side is both are commercial systems so might might not fall in ITAR category and may be would not attract sanctions .... otherwise it does not look bad choice for conversion into LRMP but technically how much support OEM extend in this venture is yet to be seen .....

This type is known since November 2017 and is similar to the Y-9JZ with its special nose radome and the Y-9G with its two large conformal rectangular shaped ESM/ELINT antennas on both sides of its rear fuselage. Additionally several more antennas are installed throughout the aircraft like an oval dish-shaped antenna on top of the vertical tail fin, a SATCOM antenna on top of the mid-fuselage and eventually an SAR antenna underneath the forward fuselage.

The exact role of the Y-9DZ is not entirely understood and it seems to be a multi-mission EW aircraft capable of flying various special missions including ELINT, SAR surveillance, communication jamming and PSYOP.
