Uzbekistan intends to produce 5,000 tractors of Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) and 500 harvesters of the Belarusian agricultural machinery manufacturer Gomselmash every year, Belarus' Industry Minister Pavel Utyupin told journalists, BelTA has learned.
“The Industry Ministry has held a lot of meetings and has signed several agreements, including four basic cooperation agreements with MTZ, Gomselmash, Bobruiskagromash mechanical engineering company, and Minsk Motor Plant,” Pavel Utyupin said. According to him, the partners from the two countries have set ambitious goals. In the coming years, they plan to increase the production volume of tractors in Uzbekistan up to 5,000 units a year, Bobruiskagromash machinery – up to 1,000 units, Gomselmash machinery – up to 500 units. Minsk Motor Plant, being one of MTZ suppliers, will also increase its production volume up to 5,000 units annually.
“Each agreement provides for training of specialists in Belarus, drawing up a roadmap which will determine products and share of local content which may be up to 50%. In line with the agreement, the products will be sold not only on Uzbekistan's domestic market. Initially some 25-30% of the products will be shipped to the neighboring countries,” Pavel Utyupin said. “Of course, we will not be able to set up such enterprises at once, but it is important that the products will be competitive in the market. We aim to achieve the goal in one or two years,” he added.
Pavel Utyupin said that enterprises affiliated with the Industry Ministry account for around 30% of the Belarusian export to Uzbekistan. “What is more important is that the export has increased. Last year it doubled. This year the export has grown thanks to the Belarusian automobile engineering company MAZ, Bobruiskagromash, and MTZ which has recently started to export to Uzbekistan not only ready-made tractors but also knock-down kits,” he noted.
The Belarusian automobile engineering company BelAZ is one of Uzbekistan's long-time partners. The products are highly competitive: almost all quarry vehicles in Uzbekistan are from Belarus. “We dominate this market and show our efficiency,” Pavel Utyupin noted.

Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) is currently considering about 70 projects, of which from three to five projects are planned to be implemented in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing TASS.ru.
"We have about 70 projects under review at various stages. The total amount is at least $2 billion," Deputy Chairman of the Bank Amangeldy Isenov said.
The major part of the projects, according to Isenov, falls on Russia and Kazakhstan, which are the founders of EDB.
Isenov did not rule out the possibility of financing projects in countries that are not participants of EDB, in particular, in Uzbekistan. "We are talking about three to five projects related to Russian investments in Uzbekistan," he said, recalling that Uzbekistan’s membership in the EDB is currently being discussed.
He added that EDB may enter the capital of Russian banks, if this does not contradict the mission of the bank.
The Eurasian Development Bank is an international financial organization established by Russia and Kazakhstan in January 2006 to promote the development of the market economies of the member states, their economic growth and the expansion of mutual trade and economic ties. The states parties to the bank are Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

Up to 500 million cubic meters of natural gas can be saved after commissioning the second combined cycle gas turbine at the Navoi Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in Uzbekistan, Director General of Navoi TPP Kakhromon Ganiev told Trend at the construction site of Navoi TPP JSC during a press tour.
"The first power generating unit of a combined cycle gas turbine was built in Uzbekistan from 2009 to 2012," he added. "The second power generating unit has been constructed since 2017. The construction and commissioning is nearing completion. The second combined cycle gas turbine will be fully commissioned on a turnkey basis by late September."
The first combined cycle gas turbine was constructed in accordance with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s decree dated 2009 "On measures to implement the investment project for the construction of a combined cycle gas turbine at Navoi TPP".
The second combined cycle gas turbine is being constructed in accordance with the presidential decrees dated 2013, 2014 and 2016.
The construction project of the second combined cycle gas turbine is partially funded through the preferential loans of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as the loans of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and own funds of Uzbekenergo JSC.
"The contract is worth $448.58 million," Ganiev added. "A consortium of Japanese companies Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System is involved in the construction work. Turkey’s Calik Energy is a subcontractor."
"More than ten power generating units are planned to be built in Uzbekistan," he said. "As a result, there is a need to train personnel. We have built a training center, in which the personnel are trained to work with gas turbines. The instructors were trained by JICA."

"The instructors who will train the staff in Uzbekistan have been trained in Japan within a three-year program," Ganiev said. "There is no need to go to Japan."
"Navoi TPP has a capacity of 1,250 MW," he added. "The first combined cycle gas turbine, commissioned in 2012, has a capacity of 478 MW, while the second combined cycle gas turbine will operate with a capacity of 450 MW, which generates a total of 2,178 MW."
"However, the most powerful station is in Syrdarya region - 3,000 MW as there are 10 power generating units of 300 MW each," Ganiev said.
Moderator of the second combined cycle gas turbine construction project at Navoi TPP representing Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System Takayuki Kojima added that almost all the equipment was provided by Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System.
"Japanese companies provide Navoi TPP not only with gas turbines, but also with air-cooled compressors, main pipes and gas compressors," Kojima added.

The governments of the two countries signed an agreement on international automobile, including bus, communication back in 2000, but until recently there were no direct bus flights.
In 2018, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed the government to develop regular direct bus services to cities in other countries of Central Asia and Russia. According to Uzbek statistics, today about 2.5 million citizens of Uzbekistan work abroad, including more than 2 million in Russia.
