Alexandria shipyard has huge potential for building larger ships, and building independent ships(never truly independent unless Egypt can build missiles and sensors) but designing them without another naval group partnership. This shipyard has capacity to even build light aircraft carriers so possibilities are endless.

It seems Egypt has been building up its amphibious assault capabilities for whatever reason so this is an extension off that.

Egypt formally inagurated a strategically signifacnt new base complex on 15 January in an event attended by high-ranking dignitaries from allied Arab States. Berenice (Barnis) Military Base is located on the Red Sea coast approximately 90 km north of the Halayib Triangle, an Egyptian-controlled area disputed by Sudan. The Egyptian Ministry of Defence said the base has been built to secure Egypt's southern coasts, economic interests in the Red Sea, and international maritime traffic moving through to and from the Suez Canal. The base complex is supported by local infrastructure developments that include a 50-bed hospital, a desalination plant with a 34,000 m 3 per day capacity, and 40 km of roads that link the various bases.

The Egyptian Navy is said to be close to purchasing a pair of European Multi-Purpose Frigate (FREMM) warships from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.

On February 4, 2020, French newspaper La Tribune reported that Egypt is “very close” to signing a deal with Fincantieri for the procurement of the two FREMM frigates. According to the report, these frigates may be drawn from the Italian Navy’s procurement program – the vessels Spartaco Schergat and Emilio Bianchi, launched in January 2019 and January 2020, respectively – enabling Fincantieri to sell the vessels for an estimated cost of €1.2 billion.

To support the purchase, Italian investment bank Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) will issue an export financing loan worth up to €500 million.

Earlier in the week, Italian media had reported that the two sides were in discussion on a possible FREMM agreement. Il Sole 24 ORE Radiocor also reported that CDP would provide export financing.
Egypt’s interest in the FREMM frigates – as well as its decision last year to procure up to six warships from Germany, at least three of which are Meko frigates – comes as Cairo’s relationship with France has cooled. La Tribune reported that French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision to press his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, on human rights during the former’s visit to Egypt in January of last year likely played a role in Egypt’s shifting gears on military procurement towards other European suppliers.

The Egyptian military procured a range of equipment from France after 2015, including Rafale fighter jets, Mistral helicopter carriers, a FREMM frigate, and Gowind corvettes. Follow-on agreements for a dozen Rafales and two Gowind corvettes had been expected but now appear to be frozen, La Tribune reported.

The State Department has approved a proposed $2.3B foreign military sale of aircraft engines and weapon systems to support the Egyptian government’s efforts to modernize its Boeing-built (NYSE: BA) AH-64E Apache attack helicopters.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Thursday that Boeing and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) will serve as prime contractors in the transaction, which also includes simulation training systems and logistics services.

Items under the potential FMS agreement include General Electric-built (NYSE: GE) T700-GE-701D aircraft engines, AN/ASQ-170 night vision sensors, common missile warning systems, GPS technologies, AN/APX-119 identify friend or foe transponders, M299 Hellfire missile launchers and various firearms.

According to DSCA, Egypt intends to leverage the modernized AH-64E aircraft to support allied efforts to counter terrorist activities in the Sinai Peninsula and build up interoperability with the U.S. and other allies.

DSCA said it notified Congress of the deal Thursday.

Egypt and Italy are very close to inking a major $10.7 Billion USD deal on an arms deal. The sale will include 6 FREMM Frigates, 24 Eurofighters, an unknown amount of M-346 trainers, and 20 Falaj-2 class Patrol Vessels and a satellite.

Egypt's interest in two Italian FREMM frigates
Sunday, 04 October 2020

According to information released by the Italian Newspaper l’Espresso website on September 30, 2020, Egypt would have signed an order with Italy for the delivery of two FREMM frigates. In June 2020, Navy Recognition has released news to announce that Italy has approved the sale of two FREMM frigates to the Egyptian navy.

According to a report, the two frigates may be drawn from the Italian Navy’s procurement program – the vessels Spartaco Schergat and Emilio Bianchi, launched in January 2019 and January 2020, respectively – enabling Fincantieri to sell the vessels for an estimated cost of €1.2 billion.

The FREMM vessels have been commissioned to Fincantieri by the Italian Navy within the framework of an Italo-French cooperation program under the coordination of OCCAR (Organisation Conjointe de Cooperation sur l’Armement, the international organization for cooperation on arms).

The "Emilio Bianchi" vessel, like the other units, features a high degree of flexibility, capable of operating in all tactical situations. 144 meters long with a beam of 19.7 meters, the ship has a displacement at a full load of approximately 6,700 tones. The vessel has a maximum speed of over 27 knots and has a maximum accommodation capacity for a 200-person crew.

Spartaco Schergat is a general purpose-configured variant with a full-load displacement of 6,900 tons and 144 meters in length. It carries an OTO Melara gun, a 16-cell vertical launch system launching Aster 15 and Aster 30 missiles, a MU90 lightweight torpedo launching system (Torpedo Launching System) and the Teseo MK2/A anti-ship system, based on the Teseo missile. The ship also has a flight deck for embarking two helicopters.

The FREMM is a class of multi-purpose frigates designed by French company Naval Group and Fincantieri from Italy for the navies of France and Italy. The FREMM program consists of the construction of 18 ships: 8 for France, 10 for Italy. The first FREMM was delivered in 2012 and the objective of contractual delivery is 2022 for the whole 18 frigates.

The French FREMM frigates are being developed in two designs: Anti Submarine Warfare (ASM) and Anti Air Warfare (FREDA). Both of them deliver anti-surface weapons. The final crew number is 108 (helicopter detachment included), which is much lower than for similar contemporary ships. The crew reduction was reached thanks to the use of advanced technology solutions and a centralized combat system.

The Italian FREMM is also being developed in two designs: Anti Submarine Warfare (ASW) and General Purpose (GP) with the possibility to perform a wide range of operational missions. The Italian versions also operate with a reduced crew thanks to Human Factors optimizations and a high level of automation. The final crew number of 145 is the result of having on board 2 helicopters (with two crews), a federated Combat Management System, and a higher level of maintainers embarked to ensure greater flexibility.
