Egypt getting Sentinel radars

Egypt will be receiving eight Sentinel radar systems from the United States worth nearly $45 million after Raytheon Integrated Defence Systems was awarded a contract.
The US Department of Defence on 16 November announced that Raytheon had been awarded a $44 488 073 firm-fixed-price foreign military sales contract for eight F1 Sentinel radar systems, eight Ethernet extender kits, a two-year concurrent spare parts package, diagnostic spare parts package, operator training course, and maintainer training course.
Work will be performed in Fullerton, California, with an estimated completion date of 31 October 2021.
Raytheon had originally requested the radars in September last year in a deal that was initially estimated as being worth up to $70 million, including vehicles.
In the original request, the US Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said, “The Government of Egypt intends to expand its existing air defence architecture to counter threats posed by air attack. This will contribute to Egypt’s military goal of updating its capabilities while further enhancing interoperability among Egypt, the United States, and other allies.”
According to Raytheon, the X-band 3D AN/MPQ-64F1 Improved Sentinel radar can detect helicopters, high speed attack aircraft, cruise missile and unmanned aerial vehicles as well as rockets, artillery and mortars. Airspace search range is more than 75 km.
More than 200 systems have been ordered worldwide, with more than 100 delivered or in production. Future enhancements currently in development include an 80 percent increase in the radar’s detection range.
The Improved Sentinel can be used to cue weapons, including Stinger missile based short range air defence weapon systems and air defence guns.
