Since I said no Indian sub was lost and mentioned that there was life loss, I had to add that to clarify that there was no Pakistani loss.
The original report I received was coded and very brief and not very clear. Since then some more clarification, the loss that I mentioned was not related and not in this area was a US marine AAV that sank off the coast of California with 9 lives lost.

There is no clear yes or no to the Indian Navy sub loss, either no such thing happened or PN does not know about it, or it's not cleared for disclosure.

My all time favorite novel - Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising". Set in the 80s, it paints a picture of a full blown war between NATO & USSR. It vividly captured USSR Backfires attacking USN Aircraft Carriers, Anti Submarine operations, and sub to sub hunts.
And then obviously "Red October".

If we are to wait for any info it will come after the ususal deployment period of the sub 2-3 months ?on station when the familes start to question the govt. unless the news and questions are actively suppressed.I guess PN wont release any info.

I can't see any reason for them to wait, they shouldn't know the exact location (if a sub went down) so there would be a mass search effort, with pretty much anyone with the capabilities responding. Can't remember the last sub lost, maybe the Argentine sub? I am sure there are a lot of stories on the net on the response from other nations.

The argentine sub was'nt carrying out offensive ops atleast publicly.Calling it a lost sub is a call for help that is not feasible for a covert op where they have to cover up any loss.Therefore the families of the sailors will be the first to come forward.

That's the thing, they are not going to cover anything up, it will come out, and it will be much worse if they didn't do everything they could to try to save those sailors.

Another thing that will delay the search and release of info is the monsoon.All the disturbed sea really distorts the sonar.Best to use a MAD.
