Lebanon agrees to close airspace for three day Russian drill - Israel News, Ynetnews

According to Lebanese news outlet, "Lebanon's airspace is expected to close for three consecutive days as of Friday midnight due to Russian "military drills" set to take place in the Mediterranean Sea, a source from Beirut's international airport told The Daily Star."

@Gasoline @Bundeswer @others

What's this all about? Is it common for military exercises?

Russians are doing a lot of propaganda these days. What else they didn't use in Syria ? maybe Nuclear weapons ?

Sounds that the Russians are going to bring more Aircrafts to Syria and they're going to launch a heavy air raids , so in order to achieve good coordination between their forces they asked the Lebanese to close their airspace.

Lebanon has no sovereignty. Anybody can penetrate their airspace.

Russia and Lebanon are not allies, so how can the Russians ask the Lebanese to close their airspace and allow the Russian jets to fly above them ?

Indeed it's insult for the Lebanese and Hezbulshaitan militias.

I think you're right, are they preparing very heavy air strikes or just testing ballistic missiles in the sea?

That's also what I noticed that Russia is on a media campaign of sorts. I think it has something to do with Syria and the planned action by allied nations. With Lebanon on that airspace exclusivity, my question is how much did Russia pay Lebanon for that. Yes, it is an insult if there is no remuneration of any kind, a simple case of bullying or opportunism.

LOL @ Lebanon... Let's see if Russia is going to violate Lebanon airspace or not and if it does how would Lebanon react to that.

It could be a ballistic missile, but not from sea because they used it yesterday and I think they feel satisfied about it (:-) :

It could be a surface to surface ICBM missile ! will be launched from Russia and hit a target in Syria !

Or it could be a test for intercepting a ballistic missile ! expect anything from those criminals. (:&

Let's wait and see what will happen. The Russians are preparing for another show of power directed to U.S and NATO.

There is no difference between Putin and Kim Jong :

The Russians were miserably humiliated in the afghan war. I can only see history repeating itself.

Isn't that what Putin wants the Russians to forget? Isn't this why he's been trying to provoke the West hoping to draw them into a war so they [the Russians] can get their revenge? It hardly matters now though. The best they can hope for is to show how powerful they are and Syria is going to be their stage.

As for the drills it most certainly is being used as smoke screen for some covert military operation.

Russians and Westerners aren't too different are they...? Russia's recent gestures to France after the Paris attacks was very friendly and sympathetic, France on other hand didn't show appreciation. Anyways the thought that Russia is drawing West into war is bizarre. They are asserting their presence pretty well in the Middle East and don't need to drag West into anything.

I am not sure if the drills have began. Some speculate it will mean massive air raids in Syria, others have said it is to prevent Israeli aircraft from entering Lebanon and hence ship anti-aircraft missiles to Hezbollah.

A number of Western countries have complained in recent years about Russian planes approaching their airspace.

There were many of these overflights late last year at the time when Russia was being heavily sanctioned. It was more like a warning to the West. Russia would do anything to stop Western meddling in Ukraine. They wanted a distraction for their people who had began questioning Putin's leadership . . .

And there was some speculation that the tensions would end in war.

. . . is an actual war imminent?

No one in Russia, NATO or the United States has gone that far yet. Still, the rhetoric and actions from both sides have definitely ratcheted up in recent days, raising concerns of a new arms race -- if not worse -- amid tensions both sides blame on each other.

Tomorrow (according to some sources.),the French aircraft carrier will take part in the airstrikes against ISIS scums. Putin ordered his navy to cooperate as allies with the French naval group that will soon arrive in the area.
Is it related to that ? I don't know,maybe ?

Russia violating airspaces, being intercepted.... it doesn't change much of what happened in the cold war era.
And those that think there will be a war between both are paranoid of fools...
NATO attacking Russia ? SURE !
Russia attacking a NATO member ? SURE !
No one will benefit from a war between both.
