Motorbikes in lightning offensives

There is an increasing element and potential of motorbikes being used in urban and desert warfare for both guerilla insurgent strikes or commando style attacks aimed at high value targets either inaccessible by air or using other assault vehicles. Motorbikes can maneouvre the urban jungle with extreme dexterity and easily melt into the environment after such operations. The Taliban have used even horses for mobile mountain warfare so there is a bit of a precedent. Motorbikes can be used by vanguard strike forces to outmaneouvre less mobile enemy units in tactical and repeated cycles of attacks.

I agree that motorbikes could be very effective in carrying out surprise raids and attacks. They are capable of manoeuvring through areas with speed and agility which the larger vehicles are unable to navigate. However, it may not all be a perfect ride because unlike the larger vehicles, the operators of the bikes could be more easily dislodged from their machines under adverse conditions.

It is effective only if you know the area extremely well down to every little alley, and you are extremely skillful on the motorbike. And there must be some people who work with you. So you can just disappear when you feel like it. Otherwise it is still hard if you are up against the authority who can simply call reinforcement to block all your escape routes.

Motorbikes rob you of the stealth factor. When you don't have surprise favoring you then the enemy will be ready for you. If they are armed [you won't be lugging heavy weapons around] you'll be on the same level as those you'll be attacking and they'll have the defensive advantage which would make defeating them really hard.
