Smuggling poses risk to food security, inflicts irreparable loss on industrial sector: PM Imran

ISLAMABAD: Chairing a meeting to review the measures the government has so far taken to check smuggling and overpricing of essential items in the country, Prime Minister Imran Khan stated on Thursday no compromise will be made in action against smuggling.

Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar, Food Security and Research Minister Syed Fakhar Imam, Adviser to the PM on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh and relevant officials were in attendance in the meeting.

Over the course of the meeting, the premier was informed that an ordinance has been promulgated to curb smuggling of basic food items and currency as it empowers law enforcement agencies to take action against such illegal activities at the country’s airports and frontiers.

Under the new law, the LEAs have powers to take elements involved in smuggling into protective custody as coordination among the district administrations, customs officials and spy agencies has improved.

The prime minister directed all departments concerned to submit a fortnightly report on actions they take against smuggling and the people involved in smuggling. He maintained smuggling is an ulcer for the country’s economy.

He noted smuggling poses risk to food security and inflicts an irreparable loss on the country’s industrial sector.

Prime Minister Khan said the government’s objective to bring down prices of petroleum products was to provide relief to the masses. He said the benefit of reduction in fuel prices must trickle down to people.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited Quetta

General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) visited Quetta today. During visit, COAS attended briefing at Headquarters (HQ) Southern Command, visited Garrison Quarantine Facility for COVID-19 and interacted with troops busy in COVID relief activities.

During visit to HQ Southern Command, COAS was briefed in detail on security situation, operational preparedness of the formations and border management including fencing along Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran Borders. COAS was apprised about the formation’s assistance to civil administration in fighting the pandemic and continued measures for socio-economic uplift of the area.

During visit to Garrison Quarantine Facility, COAS appreciated the formation for arrangements and facilities established as per health SOPs and guidelines. While interacting with officers and men, COAS lauded their dedication and professionalism. COAS said that Balochistan is future of Pakistan and it is our duty to fully assist its government and people towards a peaceful and prosperous Balochistan.

COAS directed all commanders to reach out to people in far flung areas of Balochistan to help mitigate challenges faced by masses due to COVID. Earlier on arrival at Quetta, COAS was received by Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Muhammad Waseem Ashraf.

JUI-F Karachi leader injured in SITE shooting

A local leader of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl was seriously injured in a shooting in Karachi’s SITE area on Thursday, a party spokesperson confirmed.

Maulana Gul Rafique Hasanzai received two bullets to his head and is currently being treated at a hospital, JUI-F spokesperson Qari Usman said.

JUI-F Sindh leader Maulana Rashid Mehmood Soomro condemned the attack on Maulana Hasanzai, saying that his condition was critical.

The provincial government will be held responsible if anything happens to his party leader, Maulana Soomro added.

1) How many times did you raise your voice against NAWAZ SHARIF when he held public office and used PIA planes for fetching his meals??

2) Did you raise your voice when he let the PIA plane wait overnight just because he missed one famous restaurant in Turkey??

3) Did you raise your voice when he took a charged PIA plane to London to go for treatment and kept it parked in London for one month while getting treatment??

4) Did you raise your voice when you found him involved in mega corruption cases. When you found him as an employee in Dubai while he was PM of Pak.??

5) Did you raise your voice when he tried to change the law of khatm-e-nabowat in consitution??

6) Did you raise your voice when 14 people were brutally killed in Model Town??

7) Did you raise your voice when he was continuously spitting venom against the Pakistan SC and Army ??

? Did you raise your voice when he read from written notes in front of Obama and at all international and national forums?? Such a disgrace! Such a shame !!

19) Did you ask him why he prefers Metro to Hospitals and Universities & why he does not want to depoliticise Police/Bureaucracy ??

20) Since 2 years, Courts are asking him for money trail of his colossal wealth abroad...where is his money trail??

21) Did you ask him why he used lavish protocol of dozens of cars, security & facilities from tax payers money, even after his disqualification, while other Ex-PMs didn't have any such protocol.

22) Why there is no geniune local government system in Punjab??

23) Why he didnt open up his mouth on Kalboshan Yadev to-date ???

24) Why he didnt appoint any foreign minister for so many years and as a result served our enemy's agenda & got us so isolated.

25) Did you ask him what secret meetings of diplomatic and national interest he used to do in the darkness of night with Jindal and Modi??

26) Did you ask him why he never met Occupied Kashmiri leadership on so many of his Visits to India??

27) Did you ask him why his"British national" sons used to accompany him on state Visits to India?? What was their role and who were they meeting privately??

28) Did you ask him why he appointed Mariam having no qualifications except for being his daughter on a fund of Rs.100 arab ?

29) Did you ask him why he appointed Najam Sethi, having no Cricketing background, as Chairman PCB??

30) Did you ask him why he gave his Party tickets to people like Farooq Bandial and you even vote for them and elect them??

31) Did you ask him why he is unable to run Pakistan Steels mill while his own steel mills are making heavy profits??

32) Did you ask him why he is unable to run PIA, which is the mother airline for many lucrative international airlines, while Shahid Khaqan's airline is flourishing??

All valid questions,unfortunately, nearly after two years, there is only superficial change. The only real change has been the side doing the rhetoric, the common mans suffering has only gotten worse. Pre-election promises, just remain that, promises.

As a well wisher of Pak, Alh with no political affiliation, it is a very depressing situation, and a radical solution is needed. The patient is in ICU and the prognosis is not good.

This govt is proving to be as dumb as the previous ones. There is no way any sane person can justify this ridiculous fee increase

According to the sources, the government got approval of the federal cabinet in this regard through a circular.The government collects the monthly PTV fee from consumers through utility bills.

According to sources, the government has sought approval from the federal cabinet to increase PTV license fee through a circulation. The additional amount will be added to the electricity bills of the consumers.
Sources further informed that the decision will put an additional burden of Rs 21 billion on consumers annually.

Brother there are decisions & mess created by current government (though I would always vote for IK instead of PPP & PMLN until a better candidate than IK arises, for me personally IK is better on any given day than corrupt & traitors who sell their motherland & had made Pakistan their Private state & made their Family right to rule over us) this particular decision has to be made because of an other mess left by PMLN goons.

Following is the piece I wrote couple of months ago & I myself am the authenticity of following events as it all happened/happening in front of my eyes.

The retired employees of PTV are not being paid their dues. There is almost a list of 300 employees who are in waiting list from past 2.5 years.

The Management is saying they are broke & don't have the funds.

BUT , where did all d savings went from Employees Pension Head ??
Why PTV does not have the money to pay their employees Commutation??

Here comes the dark part,
Thanks to ex-minister of state for Information Maryam Aurangzeb, savings in the Employees Pension Head were used for giving high salaries to contract employees, support lavish n luxurious incentives to higher management & ministry employees & to run & pay the salaries of Maryum Nawaz's infamous Media Cell.

PTV was milked mercilessly & left dried.
Same time, news were coming that Government is thinking of placing PTV under mortgage along other state assets.

Another gift from the Mafia that ruled Pakistan.

An initial inquiry was opened by NAB against ex-minister for misusing these funds & buying assets in most expensive sectors of Islamabad.

Long story short, Every other week there was a huge protest at PTV HQ in Islamabad by retired employees. Last sit in went for almost 2 months before a deal was brokered by special assistant Firdous Aashiq between employees & PTV management.

(One of the factor of Fawad Ch losing his Ministry for Information & Broadcasting was that he was reluctant to solve this mess as he had personal issues with then MD of PTV, so he faced wrath by the retired employees as well)

It was decided to clear Commutation dues of retired employees within 6 months but after few employees were cleared, management cried again of being out of funds.

Now every other day there is a sit-in in red zone & it becomes a headache for Management & the Government as well.

So, here comes the solution, to increase the monthly license fee"


Even pension is not being payed in full amount to some retired employees. This proposition was given in a meeting between PTV Management & ex-employees to generate lost funds & then given to Ministry from where it was presented to PM.

Nothing more than what you have written already, maybe a Heli was also fired upon of PA & then ANA & TTP had that pounding you mentioned. A girl was also injured by a mortar/rpg fired from across border. News is many posts have been obliterated by PA of ANA.
