The supposedly humble gun has been around for ages. There is practically no war in which guns have not been used. It is the weapon of choice for targeted and precision elimination in genocides and pogroms as well as day to day crimes. Every second, countless mortals are dispatched with at the pressing of a trigger. Its ease of use and easy acquisition even by tribal herdsmen in remote areas makes matters worse. No other weapon is in such a plentiful supply. The world is literally awash with bullets with the bullet to human ratio decidedly skewed in favor the latter. It is very easy to conceal in order to access restricted areas. As we fret over nukes and biological weapons, you had better watch your back.

Actually in the past battles were just as bloody and barbaric. In those times the weapons were stones, rocks, fire, and sharp swords. For instance, what would be the difference between a bombed out modern city and one set on fire by Genghis Khan? In addition, past wars were even more deadly due to the fact modern medicine had not yet cured bacterial infection, a common problem in regards to battle wounds.
