Trump Meets Israeli Leaders in Washington: Palestinians 'Going to Want' Mideast Plan

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump is meeting with the leaders of Israel’s two largest parties at the White House Monday, as he prepares to present the administration’s Mideast peace plan.

Trump will host Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at 11 A.M. before meeting with Kahol Lavan Chairman Benny Gantz, Netanyahu's rival in the upcoming March election, at 12:30 P.M. The meeting with Netanyahu is scheduled to last for over an hour, while the meeting with Gantz is scheduled to last between 30 to 45 minutes.

After another meeting on Tuesday at 12 P.M., Netanyahu and Trump are set to hold a joint press appearance, during which details of the administration’s plan are expected to become public.

7:36 P.M. Netanyahu and Trump discussed Iran, ICC

Sources in Netanyahu's entourage say the leaders discussed the peace plan to be released tomorrow, but that most of their conversation was centered around Iran, curbing its aggression and the campaign of pressure on the country from all fronts. They also discussed the International Criminal Court case against Israel, and talked at length about strengthening deterrence and U.S. influence in the wake of the killing of Iranian Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani.

7:33 P.M. Gantz and Trump meet

Meetings between Donald Trump and Benny Gantz have begun at the White House.

7:16 P.M. PLO to meet, Palestinian factions call for mass protests

The PLO Executive Committee will meet in Ramallah Tuesday for an emergency meeting to discuss Trump's peace plan. On the agenda are precautionary steps that can be taken after the plan is officially released.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is holding discussions with leaders from the Arab and Muslim world, and is expected to call for an emergency meeting of the Arab League. Palestinian factions, including Fatah, are calling on Palestinians to participate in mass protests on Tuesday and Thursday at points of friction.

Eyewitnesses say the Israeli military has increased its presence at the Beit El checkpoint out of fear of violent riots at the location.

The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu has concluded, and the president will soon meet with Gantz.

6:44 P.M. Iranian foreign minister says plan 'delusional'

Iran's foreign minister called U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan for the Middle East "delusional" in a tweet on Monday.

"Instead of a delusional 'Deal of the Century' - which will be D.O.A.- self-described 'champions of democracy' would do better to accept Iran's democratic solution proposed by Ayatollah @khamenei_ir: A referendum whereby ALL Palestinians -Muslim, Jew or Christian - decide their future," Zarif wrote.

6:39 P.M. Joint List's Ayman Odeh: 'No peace with annexation'

In a Tweet parodying the president's Twitter style, Joint List Chairman Ayman Odeh wrote, "We need to talk to Donald Trump in his own language:

"Bad deal. VERY BAD. No peace with annexation. CORRUPT BIBI doesn’t want peace. CHEATING TRUMP doesn’t want peace. They only care about HASINUT!!!! Sad." He said, referring to Netanyahu's bid to gain immunity in his corruption cases.

Keep in mind Trump was not the one who wrote up this plan, it was Kushner-Friedman-Greenblatt whom masterminded the plan with Netanyahu and his gov't.

Trump just wants an achievement to add on to his legacy. The guys named above want to advance Israel's interests in a major fashion.

As for the plan itself, everyone is aware it's not a realistic plan for a lasting peace since it is heavily biased in Israel's favor. And those who prepared the plan intentionally made it so the plan would be rejected by the Palestinians.

What they are going to try to achieve is to see if any Arab states jump onboard with the plan. If they do, then Israel will declare the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over and jump to annex the West Bank or large portions of it and may resort to military assaults against Gaza and reoccupying Gaza.

If no Arab states come out in support of the plan then it will be rather meaningless and it would be up to Netanyahu to take unilateral steps in the West Bank when it comes to annexation of settlements.

Palestinian factions in Gaza should wait to see what the plan entails and this will be known at the reveal event tomorrow. As for the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank, they are the ones who are going to need make changes. They are saying they are against the plan but take no steps to cut off ties with Israeli gov't and military.

What would be the Arab response to this move @Falcon29

I am not sure we can determine it yet because it depends on what will happen/be announced later today. If the rumors are true that Netanyahu-Trump will announce annexation/recognition of West Bank settlements/Jordan Valley then Arabs will certainly condemn but don't know if they will do more. Israeli's are moving more military brigades and even what look like heavily armored military vehicles into the West Bank which is at request of political echelon so they know something controversial will happen.

Summary of the plan:

-Israel not even agreed to it, only agrees to 'negotiate'
-Even without Israeli agreement, US will recognize Israeli annexation of West Bank settlements and recognize Jerusalem as Israeli capital
-Trump claims they drew up a map for borders of Israel that will be released later, they are lying and won't release it. Israel won't define its borders until it takes over everything remaining in Palestine.
-Netanyahu seems to be asking the US to attack Gaza and disarm Palestinian factions
-Palestinian Authority(Abbas led) won't even change status quo and is in on the plan
-It's part of long term process of US giving more concessions to Israel and enabling it to takeover all Palestinian land until they have their 'full Israel'
-No reaction from Arab world, some Arab ambassadors attended the conference
-Palestinian armed factions too powerless to be able to change anything
-Situation in region will continue to deteriorate for everyone and not just Palestinians

-Someone needs to step up and lead region back on right path, everyone can't just sit and await and their demise and attempted execution of Islam

Yep, as expected they lied, there is no border for Israel in this map and no Palestine to be seen. Even though they stated the map was to outline two states and their borders. The map was made by Kushner, Friedman and Greenblatt, all of them right wing Jews with strong ties to Likud Party(Netanyahu's party in Israel).

WASHINGTON - US President Donald Trump unveiled his “Deal of the Century” peace plan on Tuesday in the White House, giving Israel full control of the settlements and Jerusalem as its undivided capital. The plan also established a Palestinian state.
“We are not here to lecture—we are not here to tell other people how to live, what to do, who to be, or how to worship. Instead, we are here to offer partnership – based on shared interests and values – to pursue a better future for us all," the president said, as he unveiled a vision that the White House said is the "most serious, realistic and detailed plan ever presented, one that could make Israelis, Palestinians and the region safer and more prosperous."

The plan, Trump said, has the support of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his main political rival, Blue and White head Benny Gantz.

"If [the Palestinians] are genuinely prepared to make peace with the Jewish state," Netanyahu said in his remarks at the unveiling ceremony, "Israel will be prepared to negotiate peace right away."

Trump said that the United States will recognize Israeli sovereignty over any land that “my vision provides to be part of the State of Israel" and will require the Palestinians to recognize Israel as the Jewish state and to agree to solve the refugee problem outside of Israel.

The prime minister is expected to vote on Sunday at the Cabinet meeting to immediately apply sovereignty to the territories in Judea and Samaria.

At the same time, "the sovereign capital of the State of Palestine should be in the section of East Jerusalem located in all areas east and north of the existing security barrier, including Kafr Aqab, the eastern part of Shuafat and Abu Dis, and could be named Al Quds or another name as determined by the State of Palestine," the plan states.

For the first time in this conflict,Trump has reached an understanding with Israel regarding a map setting forth borders for a two-state solution. He said during the unveil that the map will make clear the “territorial sacrifices that Israel is willing to make for peace.”

The president explained that the plan will “more than double Palestinian territory… No Palestinians will be uprooted from their homes.”

The plan includes Palestinian use and management of facilities in Haifa and Ashdod ports, Palestinian development of a resort area in the north shore of the Dead Sea, and continued Palestinian agricultural activity in the Jordan Valley. Ultimately, the plan envisions "modern and efficient transportation links" through the future Palestinian state, including Gaza.

Moreover, he said that although Israel will maintain control of Jerusalem, the status quo will remain on the Temple Mount and "the special and historic role of the King of Jordan" with regard to the Muslim Holy Shrines in Jerusalem will be preserved.

"Jerusalem’s holy sites should remain open and available for peaceful worshippers and tourists of all faiths," the plan states. "People of every faith should be permitted to pray on the Temple Mount/Haram al-Sharif, in a manner that is fully respectful to their religion, taking into account the times of each religion’s prayers and holidays, as well as other religious factors."

The president said that if the Palestinians choose to accept the plan, some $50 billion will be infused into this new Palestinian state.

“There are many countries that want to partake in this,” he said. “The Palestinian poverty rate will be cut in half and their GDP will double and triple.” He then called for “peace and prosperity for the Palestinian people" and said that he knew he would have to "do a lot for the Palestinians or it just wouldn’t be fair."

Trump has been bringing historic enemies in the region closer together, and his actions are promoting normalized relations between Israel and its neighbors. At the reception on Wednesday, ambassadors from the United Arab Emirates. Oman and Bahrain were present.

Their presence at the ceremony unveiling the plan was considered a significant step and a sign that the countries support the plan that has been denounced by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

The president made clear that to the two-state solution will present “no incremental security risk to the State of Israel whatsoever.

“Peace requires compromise, but we will never require Israel to compromise on it security,” Trump said.

Specifically, the plan provides for a demilitarized Palestinian state living peacefully alongside Israel, with Israel retaining security responsibility west of the Jordan River. According to Trump's vision, over time, the Palestinians will work with the US and Israel to assume more security responsibility.

Netanyahu in his speech said that he has agreed to negotiate peace with the Palestinians on the basis of Trump's peace plan. The prime minister noted several key reasons, including especially that rather than "play lip service to Israel's security," the president "recognizes that Israel must have sovereignty in places that enable Israel to defend itself by itself.

"For too long, the heart of Israel has been outrageously branded as illegally occupied territory," Netanyahu continued. "Today, Mr. President, you are puncturing this big lie. You are recognizing Israel’s sovereignty over all Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria - large and small alike."

At remarks made to the press later in the day, the prime minister said that in his estimation, this peace plan "buries" the idea of a divided Jerusalem, of returning to 1967 borders and of the Palestinians' right of return.

Netanyahu agreed to a four-year land freeze to secure the possibility of a two-state solution.

The Blue and White party also responded to the plan, saying, "President Trump’s Peace Plan provides a strong, viable basis for advancing a peace accord with the Palestinians, while preserving the existing arrangements between Israel and Jordan and Egypt, and enabling their expansion to additional countries in the region.

"All of this will naturally be subject to security arrangements, as underscored by Blue and White chairman LTG (res.) MK Benny Gantz, in his important meeting with the President of the United States yesterday," the party concluded.

Is East Jerusalem negotiable?
At the same time, "the sovereign capital of the State of Palestine should be in the section of East Jerusalem located in all areas east and north of the existing security barrier, including Kafr Aqab, the eastern part of Shuafat and Abu Dis, and could be named Al Quds or another name as determined by the State of Palestine," the plan states.

So basically a neighborhood in East Jerusalem, this plan is not going to gain momentum if it is intended to achieve lasting peace. Israeli Cabinet will vote Sunday to annex all West Bank settlements which will be a big escalation that will have consequences on the ground. The US should not recognize such annexation if they want this process to work.
