THe IAF has proven to be quite effective in helping out with civilian disasters like when flooding or earthquakes occur and evacuatins need to be made or people need to be rescued. An example of this is the tragedy at Uttarakhand which caused devastating floods and landslides. This was the country's worst natural disaster since the 2004 tsunami. The Indian Air Force, the Indian Army, and paramilitary troops evacuated more than 110,000 people from the flood ravaged area.

How effective the IAF is in a war scenario is a different story altogether. Against existential threats like Pakistan the IAF is capable of quelling any attack. India would be defeated in the air if attacked by China though. The IAF has recently helped the Maldives avert disaster after their water desalinization plant was damaged from a fire. The IAF and Chinese air force supplied thousands of tons of bottled water to Maldives residents and still continue to do so until the plant is up and running once again.
