Good going. Women should take their part in the society
Military Police is the arm, that investigates, and enforces military law. So this is a very good step in empowering women in uniform.

This is might be a bit of a problem. Why they want to throw women in front lines?

Most armies train women as backup, to prevent over runs, and as an option of the last resort. I think this is what is implied, but as always I'm open to correction.

#Update on #An32 crash: Eight members of the rescue team have reached the crash site today morning. IAF is sad to inform that there are no survivors from the crash of An32.

The IAF An-32 aircraft, carrying eight crew and five passengers, was reported missing June 3 after failing to reach its destination of Mechuka Village, near the Chinese border.

The IAF An-32 aircraft, carrying eight crew and five passengers, was reported missing June 3 after failing to reach its destination of Mechuka Village, near the Chinese border.

The Ministry of Defense said the Soviet-designed plane last made contact with ground services approximately a half hour after departing from Jorhat, in the state of Assam.

On Tuesday, IAF said it located the crash site at an elevation of about 12,000 feet but was unable to reach the location by helicopter due to weather and dense forest so it dispatched a rescue crew of military mountaineers Wednesday to the site.

Eight members of the rescue crew then reached the crash site Thursday, IAF said.

"IAF pays tribute to the brave air-warriors who lost their life during the An-32 crash on 03 June 2019 and stand by with the families of the victims," IAF said on Twitter. "May their soul rest in peace."

A 15-member rescue time recovered the bodies, which will be transported by helicopters, NDTV reported.

The aircrafts' black box, which includes cockpit audio and flight data, was also retrieved.

Randeep Singh Surjewala, spokesman for the Indian National Congress, offered his condolences on Twitter, saying what happened was "extremely sad."

India Kicks Off $6.5 Bn Submarine Project With Help From Abroad
21 June 2019

View attachment 8353
All six submarines under the $6.5 billion project will be built with assistance from abroad. The Indian Navy has retained the option to “manufacture six more submarines under the project.”

New Delhi (Sputnik): The Indian government has issued an expression of interest to foreign companies to construct six advanced diesel-electric submarines for its navy.
The defence ministry has said Project 75-I is valued at around $6.5 billion. As part of the project, leading submarine manufacturers across the continents will need to work with an Indian partner to supply the submarines.

The defence ministry says the project ''will provide a major boost to the indigenous design and construction capability of submarines in India, in addition to bringing in the latest submarine design and technologies as part of the project''.

All six submarines under this project will be built in India by the selected Indian Strategic Partner in collaboration with the selected foreign submarine manufacturer.
The Indian Navy also retained the option to “manufacture six more submarines under the project”.

Companies interested in the project are expected to respond to the announcement within two months. The lowest bidder will be selected as the winner of the mega project.

The Indian Navy has stipulated, in its draft request of information, indigenous content of 45%, additionally mandating that the submarines should be fitted with Indian steel, missiles, torpedoes including the indigenously developed heavy weight torpedo and air independent propulsion. The navy also wants all copyrights for the submarine to be vested to India once the initial batch of 6 submarines has been constructed so India can export the vessel.

Currently, the Indian Navy has a single production line in Mumbai wherein French designed Scorpene Class submarine has been manufacturing with a five year delay.

The Indian Navy presently operates 14 conventionally-powered submarines, two nuclear ballistic missile submarines, and a Russian-built nuclear powered fast attack submarine.

As per the 30-year plan, unveiled soon after the 1999 Kargil war, the Indian Navy had set a target to achieve at least 24 submarines by 2030 to maintain its superiority in the Indian Ocean.

India dissatisfied with Russian missiles
Tuesday, June 25, 2019 2:00:22 PM
View attachment 8549

India intends to replace Russian surface-to-air missiles with weapons from Israel. The decision was made after defects were found in the Russian-made missiles R-77 in February 2019, when Pakistan F-16 fighter jet shot Indian MiG-21 aircraft from a distance of 100 kilometers using the AIM-120 rocket, reports the Russian Gazeta.ru news outlet.

At the same time, the Indian Air Force could not strike back at the F-16 fighter, as the R-77 missile could not engage the target.

India wants to replace Russian missiles with Israeli I-Derby with a shooting range of 100 km.

However, the Indian army faces another problem. They need to find a way how to integrate Israeli missiles to Russian Su-30SM aircraft.

Why India Doesn’t Like Its Russian-Made Missiles
June 23, 2019
by Michael Peck

After losing one of its fighters to Pakistani jets armed with American-made missiles, India is not happy with its Russian-made missiles.
In fact, it wants to replace its Russian air-to-air missiles with Israeli weapons, according to Indian news site NDTV.
“In two years from now, the Indian Air Force's frontline Sukhoi-30 fighters may be re-armed with Israeli Derby air-to-air missiles after the jet's Russian-made R-77 missiles were found wanting in air combat operations over the Line of Control on February 27 this year,” NDTV said.

During air battles along the Kashmir border on February 26 and 27, an Indian Air Force (IAF) MiG-21 was shot down, apparently by a U.S.-made AIM-120 AMRAAM (Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile) fired by one of Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) American-built F-16 fighters. India claims to have downed a Pakistani fighter – which Pakistan denies – but India was still embarrassed by the capture of its MiG-21 pilot, who was shown on Pakistani television and later returned.

What troubles the Indian Air Force was that Pakistan was able to destroy an Indian jet from long range. “Among the Indian Air Force's fighters which were targeted were two Sukhoi-30s which managed to evade the AMRAAMs which were fired at close to their maximum range of 100 kilometers [62 miles],” according to NDTV. “Fully defensive and desperate to escape the incoming AMRAAMs, the IAF Sukhoi-30s escaped being shot down but were unable to retaliate the F-16s because they were out of position and their own missiles, the Russian R-77s, did not have the range to realistically engage the Pakistani fighters. IAF sources told NDTV that the Russian missiles do not match its advertised range and cannot engage targets which are more than 80 kilometers [50 miles] away.”

The early-model AIM-120A/B has a range of up to 75 kilometers (46 miles). But in 2010, Pakistan received a batch of the AIM-120C-5, with a range of 100 kilometers (62 miles). The most advanced AIM-120D has an estimated range of up to 160 kilometers (100 miles).

“The PAF surprised the IAF by launching air-to-air missiles from inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” said Sameer Joshi, a former Indian Air Force fighter pilot. “The AMRAAM effectively outranged the IAF air-to-air missiles which did not get a command to launch.”

India is now looking to Israel, from whom it has purchased numerous weapons, such as the Heron drone and the Derby, a radar-guided, beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile with a range of 50 kilometers (31 miles). To counter AMRAAM-armed Pakistani F-16s, the IAF is looking at the improved I-Derby, which features a more radar seeker and – most importantly – a 100-kilometer (62 mile) range.

But that raises another problem: how to integrate an Israeli missile into a Russian airframe (and an ironic problem, given how much Russian-built planes have been destroyed by Israeli missiles). “Integrating the missile into the Russian fighter will be a challenge and, according to sources, will require Israeli expertise, particularly in developing a data-link between the Sukhoi-30 and the missile, once it is fired,” according to NDTV. “A fighter jet communicates with the missile through the data link and passes on updated vectors (location) of the fighter which has been targeted.”

Strangely, while disparaging Russian missiles and buying Israeli ones, the Indian Air Force is reportedly ordering yet more Russian weapons. Moscow is offering medium- and long-range versions of the underperforming R-77.

R-77 is indeed A2A - The crux of the problem is that western EX assets (op by PAF) created havoc, to the extent of making IAF look like fools. They even did a presser in which they claimed downing an F16, where as, it was a decoy that they failed to recognize.

I believe this was used:

Indian Defense Ministry Seeks Shipyards Willing to Build Six New Submarines
26.06.2019

View attachment 8577

The Indian Defense Ministry set in motion last Thursday the process of getting six new submarines built under its new Strategic Partnership program, which aims to increase domestic development by partnering Indian firms with foreign ones to produce military hardware.

The MoD sent “Requests for Expression of Interest” (REols) out to Indian shipyards on June 20, inviting bids to produce six Project 75I-class diesel-electric attack submarines for the country’s navy. The shipyards will have two months to respond, and those that make the cut will be shortlisted as Strategic Partners (SP) under the ministry’s new partnership program inaugurated last year, The Diplomat reported Wednesday.

“The Indian companies would be shortlisted based on their capability for integration of system of systems, expertise in shipbuilding domain and the financial strength,” the MoD said in a June 20 statement. “The OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] would be shortlisted primarily based on their submarine design meeting the Indian Navy’s Qualitative Requirements and qualifying the Transfer of Technology and Indigenous Content (IC) criteria.”

Potential foreign partners for the contract include Naval Group (France), Kockums (Sweden), Rubin Design Bureau (Russia) and Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft (Germany), The Diplomat reported.

Procurement of the six Project-75I subs was approved by the Defense Acquisition Council in January, although it’s been in the works since 2007, The Diplomat noted. The new boats are derived from the Kalvari-class submarines, themselves the product of a joint venture between French naval manufacturer DCNS and Mumbai’s Mazagon Dock Limited. The total cost of the submarines is projected to be 45,000 crore rupees ($6.5 billion), New Delhi Television reported.

The purpose of the SP program is to create a vehicle for compliance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” program, which aims to increase the amount of home-grown technology and manufacturing of Indian arms in a bid to minimize dependency on foreign providers.

Under the program, qualifying domestic companies will partner with foreign firms willing to engage in technology transfer. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approves the deal, and specially constituted Empowered Project Committees (EPC) oversee the entire process, the Press Trust of India reported in July 2018.
"This will give a major fillip towards encouraging self-reliance and aligning the defence sector with the 'Make in India' initiative of the Government," the defense ministry said in July 2018, according to PTI.

The fuel tank dropped by LCA Tejas in Southern India (image: ANI)

The fuel tank of Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) decoupled from the jet while it was flying over Tamil Nadu state, south India, and landed over agricultural field in the outskirts of the state-capital Chennai, on Tuesday morning.

The unfortunate incident happened when the fighter was on a routine sortie. The plane landed safely at the Sulur air base after the 1200-litre drop tank fell from the sky.

“Today (Tuesday) morning at around 08.40am, one fuel drop tank fell off from a Tejas aircraft on a routine sortie from Sulur Air Base near Coimbatore. The aircraft landed back safely after the incident. No damage was reported on ground. The cause of the incident is being investigated,” the IAF said in a statement.

The incident caused a small fire and created a three-foot deep crater at the field, according to the Indian media.

India To Get French Rafale Fighters In September
July 3, 2019
View attachment 9009
Dassault Rafale fighter (image: Aatish Pillai)

The first of French-origin Rafale fighters will be handed over to the Indian Air Force (IAF) in a ceremony planned to take place in France in September this year.

The first batch of four jets armed with SCALP missiles having a range of over 300km is expected to be ferried to India by May next year, ET reported Tuesday.

Eighteen Rafale jets will be deployed in Ambala while an equal number of the new generation jet will be stationed in Hasimara.

The Rafale will be flown by Indian pilots in France for at least 1,500 hours as part of the testing and acceptance process. The pilots will initially be given lessons on simulators for the full range of missions planned with the fleet. While Indian teams are already in France to oversee the project, Indian pilots have been getting extensive exposure to Rafale characteristics at bilateral air combat drills.

In September 2016, India signed a Euro 7.87 billion (INR 59,000 crore) deal with the French government for purchase of 36 Rafale combat aircraft. Heavily customised for India, it will get 14 India-specific enhancements.

The French fighter will be fitted with the 150-km range Meteor missile which is is a Beyond Visual Range missile providing a no-escape zone three times greater than that of a competing missile such as the American AMRAAM missile. The Meteor can hit farther and with greater effectiveness than missiles in the arsenal of Pakistani or Chinese air forces.

The French will also guarantee performance-based logistics support which means that 75 per cent of the fleet will be airworthy at any given time.

This is a first ever for India where the air-worthiness is part of the purchase agreement.

Indian Navy Issues RFP For 6 Next Generation Missile Vessels Worth US$2 Billion
03 July 2019
View attachment 9011
INS Tarkash Teg-class frigate

The Indian Navy has issued Request For Proposal (RFP) for the construction of six stealth-capable Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMVs) worth about $1.88 Billion (INR 13,000 crore), the Indian media reported Tuesday.

The Navy also issued RFPs for eight Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV), 12 Air Cushion Vehicles (ACV), eight ammunition barges for the Coast Guard, and more for nearly $290 million (INR 2,000 crore)

These ships will reportedly be hull form, stealth-capable warships that will travel at over 35 knots with an endurance of 10 days at sea.

In early 2015, the Indian Navy issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the six new indigenous missile corvettes with "surface warfare capabilities, low RADAR, acoustic, magnetic and IR signature, high endurance and credible AMD/AA capability" under the NGMV program.

The RFI specifications include BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, eight SSMs, a point defence missile system (the Barak is currently the only PDMS in Indian Navy service), an MR Gun system, capability to carry out Surface to surface, surface to air and Anti -Missile Defence (AMD) engagements to be fitted onto the ships.

The warship should have the facility to be remoted using Fire Control Radars (FCR) as well as EO (Electro-Optical) sight, and a Close-in Weapon System (CIWS).

The RFI leaves out specifications of displacement.
