Turkey: US decision on Iran deal ‘unfortunate step’

Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday the United States’ decision to unilaterally withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal was an “unfortunate step”.

“Turkey has always defended the stance that issues regarding Iran's nuclear program should be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations and has made intensive efforts in this direction,” the ministry said in a press release on its website.

“The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) accepted in 2015 was an important step taken to prevent proliferation. The plan in question has shown that even the most difficult of subjects could be resolved through negotiations.”

The ministry said Iran’s compliance with the deal has been confirmed by periodic reports of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"As such, we consider it an unfortunate step that the U.S. has decided to withdraw from the deal.

“The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action must be protected and continue to be implemented in full transparency, uninterrupted and complete, under the control of the IAEA,” it added.

Bucking pressure from the U.S.'s closest European allies, President Donald Trump on Tuesday pulled the U.S. out of the landmark nuclear agreement that world powers struck in 2015 with Iran.

Trump opted not to extend sanctions relief on Iran ahead of a May 12 deadline, vowing instead to re-impose nuclear-related economic penalties.

The 2015 nuclear agreement placed unprecedented restrictions on Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from international sanctions, but Trump has consistently railed against it since he began his bid for America's highest office, repeatedly claiming it is the "worst deal" he has ever seen.

All of the U.S.'s negotiating partners -- the UK, France, Germany, Russia, China and the EU -- agree that maintaining the accord is the best way to reign in Iran's nuclear program.

Turkey should not voice any concern now as its part of NATO and, Iran nuclear program is also suspicious and puts the entire region under high alert. I just read that Turkey wont halt trades with Iran, this in itself might jeopardize Turkey/US relation.

Should there be any direct clash all the sympathy of the people/common folks will be towards Iran.US due to its war on Iraq and Libya already lost much of credibility. Any direct conflict between Israel and Iran i suppose will turn into another angle

What does this tell you ...they're not uncivilized, they have an agenda for the region. Those politicians in Iran don't give a hoot about US public opinion. They are focusing to expand their base in the region. And what better way then to portray themselves as victims of an Saudi-Israeli-US witch hunt? The only reason there is so much rhetoric against Israel from Iran is because it is sensitive issue that Iran employs as a means to demonize other Arab nations. This tactic enables them to assert themselves against 'Arab regimes' allied with US and Israel(how they portray Arab nations). And Arab regimes are unfortunately also enabling them because they do not know how to counter this policy.

Meanwhile Iran has its eyes on Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Bahrain, Yemen, Nigeria and more to come.... So this burning the flag stuff is definitely worth it for them. I hope you get the point here. When Arabs are ready to listen come ask me how to counter this.

I don't think burning flags of country can be called anything else. Iran agenda in the region has been exposed. They can no longer hide behind the so called resistance against imperialism when we see how Israel is slaughtering Iranian forces in Syria while Iran remains silent. Many used to cheered for Iran but that no longer the case. Those who used to cheer are now in the opposite side. What will Iran gain demonizing its own image by supporting terrorism in the region and inciting sectarianism? This actually has put Iran on the top 10 list of countries sponsoring terrorism. Iran economy has crumbled, poverty increased, unemployment rate is huge, poor education, poor infrastructure, addiction...etc. That is how Iran is looked at by the rest of the world. How can Iran be seen as a role model in the region? Iran indeed was able to fool a few here and there but the majority are well informed about Iran's real intention in the region.

The Arabs do strongly support their own regimes except few in Iraq and Lebanon. Those who support Iran do migrate to neighbouring Arab countries to make a living, why don't they go Iran? The Arabs specially those in GCC have strong relations, cooperation, trades, economic exchange with the US since ages. They are not going to sacrifice that to please few. The Arab league was established to sort out issues concerning the Arab world, those who worked outside this have now turned their own countries into he hole.

You're missing the point, we are aware of everything you're speaking. The point is, however, the 'resistance' against Israel mantra isn't really that, we know that. But they will continue to incite against Arab governments to the people of the region that they have ties with Israel and/or secretly allied with them or are indifferent towards the Palestinian cause. They aren't necessarily trying to convince people, instead exploiting the cloud of uncertainty on this matter as a means to demonize those governments and portray them as pawns of Israel to justify supporting 'revolutions' in their country or forming proxies in those countries to gain influence over them.

The only to take this away from is for Arab governments to clear the uncertainty around this and on a public level make it clear that they embrace the Palestinian cause and will take serious measures towards it. I'm not talking about donating money for infrastructure projects or to the Palestinian Authority. It doesn't require money, it just requires speaking at a public level and making people aware to clear the uncertainty facing them around this issue right now. To take that card Iran is playing against them.

Palestinians are not special people and not the only ones who deserve a right to self determination or struggling with something. But on a socio-political level there needs to be assurances. The indifference some Arab governments are displaying and the ties they have with Israel mean Iran will exploit this card until it deems necessary. Even if Arab governments don't change towards the Palestinian cause, it doesn't mean I or others will support Iran. I have a specific ideology that I don't let go of. So don't focus on if people will jump to their camp, they won't. What we're advising is being efficient and having good foresight politically for the region working towards your benefit.

I beg to defer, Palestine issue has been addressed many many time. What makes the issue a parked bus is the spilt within the Palestinian political factions. Neither Hamas nor Fateh want to let go. Until this issue is solved the current status quo will remain as is. All of the Palestinian territories have to fall under the central government without exclusion. This can push up the peace process and address the peace initiative proposed. All of the Arab governments have loud this before on many occasions with no luck. This fall within the Palestinians themselves to solve. There is no uncertainty here if you go back to all the agreements, resolutions, conventions, public statements, political positions...etc you will have the clear picture you are looking for.

You are spot on...Iran is exploiting the affections of common folks towards Palestine by representing it to be an enemy of Israel for Palestine.

Your mistake is thinking they are few, they are majority. Me, you and others are educated and well informed people. In Middle East that is not the case yet. Many people are stirred by emotion and propaganda works and is employed by all parties in the region. Saudi led Arab camp should employ symbolic efforts such as simple words and endorsement of Palestinian cause. They don't need to solve the conflict or put any money into anything. Once they do that, Iran can't claim it is supporting Shia parties in certain nations as a struggle against Israel or Israeli allied nations. It will be forced to state its genuine ambitions which are unpopular and not help their cause.

Saudi Arabis since its establishment doesn't employ empty rhetoric rather work within diplomatic channels and protocols.
1- Inside the UN
2- Inside the Arab league
3- within its own Council of Ministers
4- GCC
5- International forums
6- International organization
7- State to State

Saudi Arabia and rest of the Arab world work collaboratively in all international gathering, issuing statements, providing supports and what not. Its plain and simple, Israel has to stop violating international laws and the conventions it signed, go back to 67 boundaries agreement and stop the illegal settlements. Palestine on the other hand has to listen to its Arab brethren, stop the political dispute and form an inclusive government. It was Saudi Arabia that pushed for Palestine to granted a permanent observer State status at the United Nations and that is the mighty of what is called political lobbying not the empty childish rhetoric of Iran.

Saudi Arabia needs to educate the illiterates how diplomacy leads to positive results not the empty talk that leads to more destruction. Saudi Arabia always bring up Palestine case for those who actually willing to listen. We really don't need to keep parroting over and over again. Saudi Arabia stance is clyster clear "“the Palestinian issue is still our issue and will be so until the Palestinian people gain all their legitimate rights, foremost of which is the establishment of an independent state with East Jerusalem (Al-Quds) as its capital". Saudi Arabia has been working along that line for ages. Maybe we need to launch a media campaign inside Palestine to deliver those words more coherently and pushed them down the throat of every Palestinian.

Iran has not built a single house, hospital, school nor provide any support except hurting the Palestinians letting them fighting each other, siding with Hamas against the rest. The bottom line the Palestinians must understand is that violence has been proven to play harmful role rather a vital one and that the case wont be solved if they decided to keep going this way. It has been over 65 years now so enough is enough my friend. They should all set down and have this sorted out where let's say Fateh represent the political wing and Hamas take control of the armed wing or any other way they want to do it.
