What bugs me is that the US missiles shield deployed to Kuwait was not able to the detect the drones and the missiles coming from Iraq/Iran. Its also our defense systems not being positioned to the north. Maybe Saudi Arabia can look for other system until the THAAD arrives or may be ask the UAE to station some of its air defense systems for the time being. Interesting to note that Iraqi PM has arrived to Jeddah and has met with the king few hours ago. This comes after Saudi Air forces airstrikes inside Iraq and Syria few days back.
No one was expecting an attack from Iraq side, all eyes were on Yemen and the enemies exploited this situation. Either the Saudi air defenses on the northern side are not adequate or were turned off.

They weren't but all of them were positioned to the south. Patriot has 120 degree angle not 360.

Fly AWACS 24x7.

Since the attack two AWACS have not stopped >surveillancing< .

I believe the attack did come from a similar system.

More digging into Iran's inventory we find:

This was showcased in Iran

We can now deduce that Iran managed to get its hand on the ASN-301 system from China and probably got it with full ToT

The point to ponder is how did Iran manage to ship them to Iraq the under the watchful eyes of the US forces.
Well given the reign of militias, that is not a very hard thing to do.

But still it's not a matchstick, the whole system had to travel the whole length of Iraq. I am sure there was a intelligence lapse by Saudi intelligence agencies. Off course this is an Awakening call for the Saudi govt and they need to now rely less of others and mend their ways now. Someone needs to ask questions from the US forces.

Its easy to smuggle the system apart. We are not yet convinced that it was launched from Iran. It could be from inside Iran. Time will tell.

What is the range of this system? It's more of a problem if it was launched from Iran and airdefenses were unable to detect them.

U.S. to send missile defense devices, 200 troops to aid Saudi Arabia

The United States announced Thursday that it will send two missile defense devices and 200 troops to Saudi Arabia to aid its defense after airstrikes on Saudi oil fields earlier this month.

Chief Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Huffman said Secretary of Defense Mark Esper announced the United States will deploy one Army Patriot missile defense battery, four Sentinel RADAR units and 200 support personnel.

"This deployment will augment the kingdom's air and missile defense of critical military and civilian infrastructure," Huffman said. "This deployment augments an already significant presence of U.S. forces in the region."

Esper also approved placing two additional Patriot batteries and one Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, or THAAD, system on "prepare to deploy" orders, although no official decision has been made to deploy them at this time.

Huffman added that these steps are a demonstration of the United States' commitment to "regional partners and the security and stability in the Middle East."

"This follows the secretary and chairman's extensive outreach to partners in the region and around the globe," he said. "Other countries have called out Iranian misadventures in the region and we look for them to contribute assets in an international effort to reinforce Saudi Arabia's defense."

Last week President Donald Trump ordered additional troops to Saudi Arabia after airstrikes damaged 10 Saudi oil installations responsible for 5 percent of the global supply.

"We will also work to accelerate the delivery of military equipment to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to the [United Arab Emirates] to enhance their ability to defend themselves," Esper said at the time.
