MK it's been such a long journey. Ah, those days you were ridiculed, chided, insulted, attacked in every way possible, including by mods, who would silently allow such attacks and even engage themselves in attacking you. I played a tiny role too - but I think the argument eventually got through to the PN, who had till then only relied on the PAF for fighter aircraft acquisition expertise.

This is the value of an open forum where all opinions and ideas are allowed to be discussed without censor. The best ideas win. And when those ideas get implemented into policy, it changes the world, and gives one's own group a competitive advantage against other mindless zombie nations.
I remember his long paragraphs advocating the capabilities and strengths of JH-7. He would explain the capabilities that it would bring to the table for PAF. His idea of low cost deep strike AESA equipped bombs/BVR truck was poweful and convincing, but those so called champions of inside information and false experts always used To mock and ridicule him in every possible way. The pathetic arguments which they would give were that jh-7 had already been evaluated and rejected by PAF.

And @Mastankhan if you are reading this, I always used to thank your posts (I have changed my username now), because I knew from day one that you are out of the box thinker and devil’s advocate. This type of thinking doesnt come with degrees because It needs certain aptitude for it!

A Xian JH-7B that reportedly carried out test flights in 2014 was said to be powered by the LM6 turbofan engine designed specifically for the aircraft which boasts more powerful thrust than the country's latest WS-10A engine. The LM6's air intake was designed to be less visible and its exterior is coated with materials that can absorb electromagnetic waves. The engine was undergoing fine-tuning in preparation for mass production and the fighter bomber will be installed with new avionics and may use an active phased array radar.

Windjammer at PDF shared this set of pictures which indicates this a JF-17. Of course this doesn't mean the news is not real. The picture might not be.

As seen from the top pic leaked on social media, and seen over the skies of Karachi.

2 Initially arrived, and then 4 on Thursday 30th July.

The 2 that arrived were new built, and the 4 that arrived were used airframes, upgraded to double their life.

All of them carry AESA radars and Chinese engines., and latest upgraded avionics, and nearly a Generation ahead of those in service with PLAAF.

With these 6, PAF's new procurements stand as follows:

J15 - 10
J10P - 8 (J10P is a further upgrade of J10C)
JH7 - 6

Initially a full Sqdn is planned for the JH-7's, but later more could be added.

IA An induction ceremony, for all 3 platforms, could be as soon as Wednesday TENTATIVELY!

Note:

1) 2nd pic is for illustrative purposes only
2) Patch is Fan Art
3) I wouldn't be surprised, if IAF hearing the news of 3 new PAF inductions, crashes 3 Rafales. (:-)
wow induction ceremony on Wednesday 👍👍

@capricorn5192 you very rightly pointed out...common engine for all Chinese origin platforms would help economical maintenance setup on later stage....
And maybe we can talk to Chinese for inhouse maintenance/overhaul facility like JF-17s engine. We should pursue Chinese for commonality of sub-systems i.e. radars, weapons, engines so we can save on operational & maintenance costs and our own manpower training will be easy, not to mention giving boost to PAC capabilities.

Radars on J-10s and J-11s / etc are basically the same, one is larger than the other. JH-7 radar would be even bigger. More T/R modules, more power, more cooling but essentially the same genetics.

Another interesting point - with three platforms using the same engine (if this is in fact so), not only would maintenance become easy, it would also allow PAF to adopt a relatively straight forward upgrade from JF-17 to Azm - essentially a larger, stealthy, LO single engined conventional design. With a single WS-10 rather than a single RD-93.

The F-35 was an attempt to put all capabilities in a single aircraft. This was a failure. The smarter approach would have been to have developed shared subsystems but different platforms that share those subsystems. This is the approach that Pakistan has taken, willingly or knowingly or not. And I believe this is the right approach.

(All assuming all this actually transpires as no solid evidence still exists. We are rightly being accused of being a gossip hotspot).

Wow great.. Looks like PN is all set to have her own air wing with Chinese jets.

Will comment on this thread later on, extremely busy at the moment as some guests are due and with post qurbani stuff.
