Yemeni government gains ground in besieged Taiz

Pro-government forces reportedly open key roads that had been blocked by Houthi rebels for several months.

Pro-government forces in Yemen have made significant gains around the city of Taiz, which has been under siege from Houthi fighters for several months.

Governor Ali al-Maamari told the AFP news agency on Friday that government troops and their allies, backed by Arab coalition air strikes, took back areas in the western and southern suburbs of the city.

They "reopened key roads that the Houthis had been blocking for nine months," said the governor, who lives in exile in Saudi Arabia.

He added that the advance should allow humanitarian and medical aid to reach about 200,000 besieged residents in Yemen's third largest city.

Dozens of people were killed on Friday as the fighting intensified between pro-government forces and rebels, security sources said.

The death toll included at least 40 Houthi rebels, 14 loyalist fighters and six civilians.

Earlier, dozens of military vehicles carried rebel fighters out of the western suburb of Taiz towards the city of Hodeida on the Red Sea, witnesses told AFP.

Taiz is located between the rebel-held capital Sanaa and the southern port city of Aden, which loyalists took back from the Houthis in July.

In November, forces loyal to President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi announced a major offensive to try to break the city's siege.

Yemen has been torn apart by conflict for the last two years. More than 6,100 people have died - half of them civilians - since the Saudi-led coalition launched air strikes on Yemen in March 2015, according to the UN.

Islam has got nothing to do with the geo political status quo. Its more of a political fight with Iran being the aggressive here by spreading terror in every place in the region. In Yemen Iran supports a terrorist militia, in Iraq, Lebanon and in Syria siding with the child murderer Asshead. Saudi Arabia is basically in adopting a counter measure.

I don't like to comment on the matter, but see this link :

And Iran's presence in Iraq is at the request of Iraq.

I have to disagree. Fox news narratives as always. Saudi Arabia is a victim itself of Al-Qaeda attacks and has been fighting ISIS since Assad and Iraq current government released them from prison. The video you posted is full of accusations but failed to provide any single substantial evidence. Being a Sunni or Shia doesn't matter as all are fighting for political gains. Iran support to the Shia militias who are currently slaughtering innocent Iraqis based on religious identity, Hizbo in Lebanon who also fighting alongside Assad is crystal clear. You can tell by the rhetoric of Iranian leaders. Agreed that Iran presence in Iraq was because Iraq requested that but when it comes to Saudi Arabia intervention in Yemen based on the Yemen legitimate government as recognized by the UN we see different story from Iran and we see mullahs here and there along with military leaders even the so called supreme leader are shouting every now and then.

I heard that Taiz has completely been liberated and that Sana'a the Capital is to be handed without resistance from former president and Houthis forces.
Taiz will be fully liberated in few days after cleaning up some Huthi enclaves, according to Gen. Assiri. I think what you said about Sanaa which has been being repeated for a while is part of the psychological warfare that has been going on pretty well. But who knows.

Wiki is nor a source. It can be edited by anyone and all the references belong to journalists not official organization recognized by the UN committee. So I take that with a grain if salt.
You have to failed to bring one single proof to such an absurd claim. Saudi Arabia supports Al-Qaeda?∫øø§ Since one? Saudi Arabia is a victim of Al-Qaeda attacks itself that claimed the lives of many men women and children. In contrast, there is a solid evidence that Iran has supported Al-Qaeda and I have somewhere here in the forum posted a video of the second leader of Al-Qaeda by the name Abu Hafs Al-Moritani admitting the role of Iran in providing the support to Al-Qaeda escaping Afghanistan, sheltered them and provide logistic support and route from to Afghanistan and Iraq. OK . You don't accept Wikipedia source. I give to you another source.

Wahhabism was founded by Mohammed Bin Abdul-Wahhab in 18th Century Arabia as an Islamic reform movement which felt that the local practice of Islam had lost its original purity. The movement formed an alliance with the founders of the Saudi dynasty which continues today. A modern militant version of Wahhabism is espoused by Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda organisation.

Source : BBC NEWS | Middle East | Wahhabi opponent killed in Iran

The sect is named for Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab, an 18th-century clan leader whose descendants helped the Saudi ruling family unify its kingdom in 1932. Members of the Wahhab family continue to hold prominent positions in the country.

The modern Saudi state is founded on the 18th-century alliance between the Wahhabi religious movement and the House of Saud - the family that has ruled the Saudi kingdom since its creation in the 1930s.

Their goal is not money, but resuming Iran phobia policies, just in line with previous sanction . this is the true meaning of deep hatred and bullshit and this is nothing new.

Of the 19 Sept. 11 attackers, 15 were citizens of Saudi Arabia. Zacarias Moussaoui, a convicted 9/11 plotter, confessed in sworn testimony to U.S. authorities that members of the Saudi royal family funded al-Qaeda before the attacks. The Saudi government strongly denies this.
